Information about Karen
**Proven results - students progress two to three grades higher with tuition**
I am an experienced and qualified teacher of English language and literature with patience, dedication and a passion for my profession. Students are very well supported in my lessons and grow in confidence with quality resources that are tailored to their individual needs. I set homework following each session and parents receive regular feedback about their child`s progress. I focus on building strong, positive relationships with parents and students.
Regarding my academic background, I studied English language and literature at Lancaster University and graduated with first class honours. I was honoured to receive the Pendle Award for excellence in linguistics after my final exams at Lancaster University. I then went on to St Martins College, Lancaster, to do a PGCE in secondary English (with Drama and Media Studies 11-18).
Having gained Qualified Teacher Status in 2003, I taught in secondary schools in Lancashire for over 10 years. I have experience of working with students with special needs such as: hydrocephalus, ADHD, SEBD, dyslexia, Aspergers and dyspraxia. I am enthusiastic and dedicated and offer high quality face-to-face and online private tuition. Furthermore, I am currently enrolled on a NPQLL course (National Professional Qualification - Leading Literacy) with University College London to extend my professional development. As a subject leader in terms of literacy, I am able to fully help students reach their full potential.
I have an excellent knowledge of exam syllabi and I am currently an examiner for AQA. In addition, I am a member of the professional body of tutors The Tutors Association.
Private tuition can be extremely beneficial if students require exam preparation or additional support throughout the academic year. I can provide tuition for the following: eleven plus preparation, SATs preparation, key stage 3 (years 7-9), GCSE, functional skills, ALevel and undergraduate degree studies. Many of my previous students have gone on to Bury Grammar School, BRGS, Canon Slade and, following ALevels, Oxford University. I am able to tailor tuition to students specific requirements to enable them to reach their full potential. I also teach a range of other curriculum subjects such as French and Classical Civilisation.
I offer a comprehensive tuition service that does not end with each session. I am available to students via email following tuition sessions if they require further assistance with homework.
Thank you for taking the time to read my profile, please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or would like further information.
***Please note that for students to progress and raise their grades they will need to complete the work I set between tuition sessions. Students have increased up to three higher grades by following my advice and completing the work set. I mark all work with notes for development.***

She really helps and supports people who struggle with GCSE English, especially identifying different viewpoints and motives of the author and producing a well rounded analysis. Thank you.

Karen`s encouragement and enthusiasm towards the subject is having a positive impact on my son`s interest and inturn work output not only in English but across the wider curriculum. Would recommend Karen for any parent considering if tutoring would be beneficial for their child.
