Information about Simon

SEN Specialist at Primary and Secondary Level. Specialise mainly in K1 and KS2. Currently working in mainstream Primary and as a Forest School School assistant for SEND Primary Children. Also qualified as a PE Teacher at Primary and Secondary Level.

I want to make a difference in the formative years of a child`s development. I hope tutoring will inspire children to become confident individuals in their learning and encourage them to have a hunger to learn more. It is essential that as the practitioner, we inspire pupils beyond what they believe they can achieve and help them to reach their goals.

I strongly believe building positive relationships with individual pupils matter; children need to feel able to make mistakes without feeling judged in order for them to progress in their learning. I am willing to respond to the needs of individual learners as I want to provide inclusive education for all pupils whilst appreciating their bespoke needs.

Willing to travel: 8 miles

Experience: I am currently working for Valley Special School working with children who have Autism and ADHD at Primary level. I decided to take a year out of a mainstream setting in order to gain some experience in this field. I wanted to become more adaptable as a teacher, as I believe there are more children coming in to mainstream who have SEN needs. I want to use my experience to provide strategies for SEN learners and improve their overall learning experience. I previously worked as a Year 3 Primary School teacher before moving over to SEN. My experience in the classroom has enabled me to make work purposeful, build positive relationships with children and act upon their interests. Furthermore, I believe being: empathetic, consistent and fair is integral to being able to manage a safe and caring learning environment.

Working within various settings of SEN and Mainstream key stage one and two throughout my working life, this has enabled me to have a practical understanding of effective teaching strategies. I have also experience of working from Key Stage 3 up to Post 16 through different settings of mainstream and Social Emotional and Mental Health Provisions.
