I am a passionate and experienced tutor. My greatest strength as a tutor is my positive approach to improving the confidence and academic performance of my students, regardless of their starting point.

I find it incredibly rewarding to see the benefits that a 1:1 tutorial method of teaching can bring to students and I have a successful track record of helping tutees to make excellent progress and improve their examination performance, including several students who have achieved a grade 8/9 (A.A**) and received offers from their chosen universities, all Russel Group universities.

I love tutoring and have a track record of improving former tutee`s academic performance and confidence. I am a passionate, kind and patient individual who knows the importance of strong relationships being at the core of a successful tutoring partnership. My tutoring styles ensures that my tutee`s are not being spoon fed nor talked at but instead encourages them to see their strengths, identify areas to build/work on and grow in confidence and independence to help with both their academic success but also their well-being during what can be an incredibly stressful and demanding stage of a tutees educational career.

Our first tutorial will always take the form of establishing together areas which you would like to work on. Ideally the tutee would bring/have an exam paper they have completed in school/class/at home for me to assess. There is nothing more rewarding that seeing a tutee improve confidence and ability over time and I consider my role as tutor to be a facilitator and enabler for this to happen. I will always work as hard as possible to ensure my tutees achieve their aims that we establish at the beginning of our sessions and in return, I expect the tutees very best efforts in sessions. Furthermore, you can guarantee that resources will be provided, updated, created and scaffolded to suit each individual tutee building on my expertise as a classroom practitioner. I am also happy to liaise with the tutee`s own teachers in their secondary school to work together at areas they may also have identified that would benefit from 1:1 support.

When it comes to tutoring, I know that a positive attitude is absolutely essential to ensure success. When looking back at my own experiences of school, I am profoundly aware of the detrimental use of negative language can have. I also remember clearly the teachers that inspired me and motivated me, and the grades I remember are not those of the A*`s I achieved but the ones that became B`s and A`s where the starting point was lower (just to make clear, this was in Maths...definitely an English tutor!) I know, from my own morals and experiences within education throughout my career that every student is capable of achieving their potential and with my help I feel I can develop their determination, resilience and ability.

Experience: I am a secondary school English language and literature teacher (as well as Head of Year and Child Protection Officer) with over ten years experience in both Edexcel and AQA GCSE specifications. I am graded `outstanding` as a practitioner and have specific specialties in both high achieving classes as well as nurture classes which need more differentiated and scaffolded approaches to achieve exam success.
I have also been an examiner and have had training with both Edexcel and AQA exam boards to understand exactly what helps students to achieve success in the exams. My knowledge in this area is of an exceptional standard. I am skilled in using this information and differentiating it for individuals to make it accessible and relatable.

I have several years of tutoring experience with my tutees consistently improving their academic performance and confidence. I believe that the structure of the tutorial-style system is a great way to help those tutees who are keen to improve their subject knowledge, writing style and exam performance in a way that is manageable for them and will achieve results.
