Information about Foluso

The greatest skill a degree in communications and Media Studies has given me both from my practical and theoretical experiences is how to departmentalize communication. Which means the ability to convey verbal, nonverbal, and written information effectively for promotional purposes. The nonverbal perspective facilitates information in a manner that is not only creative but encourages an individualized way of expression which can distract young people from disruptive behavior. These unique means of transferring meaning are not removed from the correct kind of conduct politely stimulating their standpoint.

Years of delivering English lessons have ensured I always pay attention to the quality of students’ writing both in analysis and construction. Which in turn improves on their comprehension.

As soon as I acquired my NQT status, I emigrated to Africa where I taught for a whole year without pay due to the teacher`s strike going on during this period. Students were helpless as they were about to sit their final exams (GCSE equivalent). By the end of four years teaching English and Literature 60% of the students I taught passed their final exams, bearing in mind the majority of them spoke little English.

My previous school enabled me to improve greatly on my online teaching skills. This sometimes meant delivering lessons many times up to 4 classes (by responding to students’ questions) simultaneously, through using applications such as: ShowMyHomework, GCSEPod, MintClass, Foldr, epraise; to mention a few.

I am presently working two days a week tutoring English Language to Key Stage 3 students. The whole process has taken me back to the reason I became a teacher all those years ago. A dream come true. I use Zoom as well as Google Classroom to deliver lessons.

Experience: English and Media Studies
Dates: September 2019 to December 2019
Company: Lealands School, Sundon Park Road, Luton, Bedfordshire, LU3 3AL
Basis: Full-time
Local Authority: Luton

Descri ption of Duties
Lealands was a school of serious behavioural problems consisting of numerous very low ability students. So unique ways had to be found to grab the attention of learners most days. It was a school that kept you on your toes most days and I was very proud of myself when knowledge got through to many of those being taught, this was made evident by their work. I taught GCSE English and Media Studies which consisted of years 10 and 11 students.

English Teacher
Dates: April 2019 to August 2019
Company: Bedford Academy, Mile Road, Bedford, Bedfordshire, MK42 9TR
Basis: Full-time
Local Authority: Bedford
Descri ption of Duties
I delivered a total of 30, year 7 to 9 (Key Stage 3) lessons in total every two weeks, adapting various departmental schemes of work provided. Readjusting these given lessons progressively depending on the context of each classroom’s demonstrated development. This ensured, with numerous fulfilled manifested achievements on my part, that the knowledge of many learners I came across were improved evidentially over time. These attainments applied many times to their attitude to learning.
Regular assessment was a high requirement almost as equally as students’ responses to teacher’s feedback, at Bedford Academy, which helped me to improve on, even further, lessons I endeavoured to plan.
The school’s language approach involved focusing mainly on literature so the author’s approach to various themes as well as the reader’s deduction process was used to ensure the comprehension of books like ‘Sign of the Four’ by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, ‘Blood Brother Brothers’ by Willy Russell, and ‘An Inspector Calls’ by J.B. Priestley.
Poetic narratives like Shakespeare’s ‘A Midsummer`s Night’s Dream’, Percy Shelley’s Ozymandias and Emily Bronte’s ‘Wuthering Heights’ were also analysed. The settings from tales helped me to encourage students to themselves, construct creatively, by understanding historical plots compared to modern texts and current contexts.
Discipline was a major issue at the school and various techniques were used for the purpose of improvement which in terms of teaching skills were quite developmental.
