Information about Laura

Hello

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to view my profile. There are lots of tutors to choose from so I appreciate you being here.

A little bit about me: I have two children; a son who is 7 and a daughter aged 6.
I finished my degree in English Language and Literature in 2016, after eight years part-time study whilst raising two pre-school children. I have learnt a thing or two about time management plus drive and determination to succeed! - which I hope to empower young people with.

Having completed my degree fairly recently I feel confident in my subject knowledge. After my youngest started primary school in 2017, I started my first salaried job in education (I have previously volunteered in many schools), as a Teaching Assistant attached to the English Faculty. I have been learning to teach, manage behavior and enhance my subject knowledge further whilst in a TA role.

Availability: I’m available:
Thursdays between 5pm - 7pm
Fridays 4pm - 6pm
Saturdays 10am - 2pm

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: I have a BA (hons) degree in English Language and Literature. I passed with a 2:1.
I am currently working at Oathall Community College as a Cover Supervisor/Teaching Assistant attached to the English Faculty.
I cover English lessons due to teacher absence across all year groups. I am very familiar with KS3 & KS4 schemes of work and what students are working towards.
I work with small groups of Year 11 students in intervention groups working towards their GCSE English Language and Literature exams; I am confident in `stretch and challenge` for students.
I have worked in the school since September ‘17 so I have extensive knowledge of schemes of work and the curriculum.
I have interviewed for and secured a Schools Direct Teacher Training position at The University of Brighton starting September 2019. I have interviewed for the Teacher Training position at Oathall and have been accepted. I am available to tutor until September when my training starts.
