I have been a professional tutor for 26 years and have also graduated from Birmingham City University with BSc(Hons) in Adult Nursing. Currently I will be teaching online using Zoom for audio or video connection, I will be using screen sharing software, an interactive whiteboard, tailor- made Power Point presentations for subject knowledge, worksheets and a document camera, email for homework if required.

Over the last 23 years I have taught biology at KS3 and GCSE and general science at KS2 where I adhere to the National Curriculum and my passion for teaching is reflected in my teaching style which I make as interactive as possible. Following a consultation and construct lesson plans that meet my students individual needs and before each lesson I meticulously plan my lessons so I can deliver a focused lesson. I can send homework via email if requested as well as any notes, diagrams and other learning tools.

As a tutor I have assisted students from ages 7 - 11 with the preparation for grammar entrance tests (which includes English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning). I have had huge success in getting my students into their selected Grammar School. My nursing/science degree and the successful completion of numerous science modules with the Open University for the past 15 years has given me a wealth of knowledge of biology, anatomy and physiology.

I am particularly skilled at adapting subject matter to tailor my student`s individual ability and am committed to unlocking my students potential and will not hold any student back if I feel they have the capacity to grasp the key stage beyond their age. I have vast experience of this and on a personal level I home schooled my daughter for many years where I was able to help her surge forward in her knowledge.

I instil confidence and am extremely patient and will persist until my student has a firm grasp on a particular aspect of the lesson. With general science and biology I teach in a structured and methodical manner altering the pace according to my student`s ability.

Eleven plus preparation involves discussing and practising all the types of test questions, building skills in technique and strategy in approaching the questions. With the Maths and English aspects of the eleven plus test I will help students develop their knowledge base and practise answering questions. If I feel a student lacks a particular grasp of a topic area I will focus on this in order to bring them up to the required standard.

I am extremely passionate and knowledgeable about my subject areas and I am extremely professional in my approach to teaching, before lessons I spend time preparing lesson plans with clear goals and objectives that are realistic to my students abilities.
