Information about Debbie
I am an AQA A-level Psychology Examiner and longstanding Private Tutor with 15-plus years experience teaching psychology at university and in selective, non-selective and independent schools as a Head of Psychology, Head of Science, and Psychology Lead Practitioner, delivering outstanding academic outcomes for A-level and GCSE Psychology cohorts.
I hold an MSc (Distinction) in Applied Psychology, a BA (1st Class) in Psychology, and UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). I also have real world experience of psychological practice as a former Social Psychologist.
In my tutoring, I improve students grades through focusing on:
- Identifying knowledge gaps and surface level understanding
- In-depth working understanding of research methods - and lots of practice
- Effective application of studies & theories to the stimulus material
- Best practice essay structure and evaluation technique
- Exam technique, including planning and timings for each paper
- Strategic engagement with past papers, mark schemes & examiners` reports
- Revision planning - including final year spaced learning to avoid last-minute cramming!
My approach to tutoring is highly responsive to the individual needs of each student, starting with an introductory session with a built-in assessment of their current subject-specific needs and wider post-secondary aspirations. My teaching style is tailored to maximise each tutees potential, taking into consideration their motivation and level of interest in psychology, their subject confidence, the current gap between their working at and target and/or desired grade, any apprehension they might have about the tutoring process, and of course, all special educational needs and special circumstances that might have impacted their progress. Throughout the tutoring journey, parents/carers are welcome to be involved as much or as little as they prefer and I respond promptly and thoroughly to parent/carer communication.
Students can choose to have their tutoring online via Zoom or in person at their home (within a 10 mile radius of postcode HP2) as long as a parent/carer is also at the location.
At this time of year, my Yr13 and Yr11 students complete their A-level and GCSE tuition, which provides considerable flexibility regarding new tutees preferred days and times. I also continue to offer tutoring throughout the summer holidays as many students take this opportunity to address any end of year exam disappointments so that they start their final A-level/GCSE year on a more secure footing.
I look forward to your enquiries about how I can help your child achieve their desired grade.
