Information about William

A second-year student at the University of Edinburgh pursuing a Master of Arts - MA (Hons) in Economics. Native in Mandarin, Cantonese and bilingual in English.

I am a result-driven private tutor and residential assistant employed part-time during my studies. Experiences in education management, retail and hospitality. Skilled in communication, critical thinking, and customer service.

My lessons will be tailored to the needs of the student. I hope to establish goals that the student would like to achieve in the future and individual sessions, this will be a way to measure progress along with the standard or work inspected by teachers and me from time to time.

In online lessons, I aim to develop the student`s skills in one field or another within the subject. Whether that is working on specific topics in the course that needs clarification, or on key skills such as exam techniques. Therefore, I plan to structure my lessons into 3 parts. The first part of the lesson would include me explaining concepts that the student wish to have help in. The second part would involve some discussion-based or practice questions related theory. Lastly, I would take any further questions, give my advice on how to approach the theory and set some short exercises during the week to consolidate knowledge.

I would prepare outside of the online classroom by coming up with interactive questions for discussion that allows the student to put the theory into practice, looking at past paper questions and examiners` comments on common mistakes and focus on the specification outline provided by the exam board for crucial areas to work on.

With a strategic and organised approach, also with a goal in sight, I believe it will encourage the motivation for the student to learn and succeed.

Willing to travel: 20 miles

Experience: Being experienced in teaching, I worked as a tutor at the Kumon Education for a year when I was 16. Helping children ranging from ages of 5-14 with their English and Mathematics allowed me to develop patience and techniques in explaining simple concepts in a way that suits each student.

At university, I am employed by the Edinburgh Tutor Company; offering private tuition to students at secondary education. With experiences teaching A-Levels, GCSEs, Scottish Highers and National 5s.

I aim to revitalise the subject interests of students by offering applications and alternative perspectives beyond the textbook, therefore, enhancing subject engagements outside the classroom.
