Information about Shamir

I am a fully qualified Mathematics teacher in an Inner London Secondary School, tutoring KS3, GCSE and A Level students in Maths. I have been tutoring for around 5 years now and have successfully tutored around 20+ students.

At my current school I have recently become the youngest Key Stage Coordinator in the Maths department. Alongside organising the KS4 (GCSE) curriculum, I also run the planning of cross-curricular learning and all extension planning for high attaining students which includes running the Maths Excellence Club and the Junior/Intermediate Maths Challenge. I am looking to use this planning to benefit new students I take on to tutor for this coming academic year 2022/23.

Alongside teaching, myself and 4 other partners/tutors run our own tutoring agency. Working with both primary and secondary school tutors in various subjects has really allowed us to broaden the resources we personally make for our students on our website. We pride ourselves on how well we communicate with parents and tailoring lessons towards the different needs/abilities of our students. Our website has been a fantastic hit with both our students and parents. Allowing students to access work outside of lessons has been extremely impactful.

As well as a PGCE, I hold a Degree in Accounting and Finance and a Distinction (First Class Honours) in my Master`s in Finance. I pride myself in the number of students I have helped over the past 5 years, all ranging in different abilities, with different targets for maths grades at different age levels. Over the years I have helped a significant number of students improve upon poor grades they have been receiving in school or lower results in exams than that which they want to achieve.

At this present stage I am focusing on online tutoring. I believe that I am a strong maths tutor who is able to identify how to work with students of different levels and abilities. Some students and parents aren`t too fond of online tutoring, but I believe the methods and interactive whiteboards that I have been using have been extremely effective. In order to show this to you I am willing to offer a trial lesson so that you may decide whether you feel I can help you to achieve a top grade in maths.

Availability: I am available after school and on weekends during term time. I am free at all times during the holidays.

Experience: I have helped a number of students to get into their universities. It was fantastic to hear their good results in August 2021. One of my A-level students did not receive the grades she wished to get in year 12 and I spent a few months helping her to reach her potential for her final A-level exams. From the first lesson I could see she was extremely bright but just needed the right guidance. I was able to teach her maths in a way that suited her best and this guided her to get the grade she needed to get into a Russell Group University. What I mainly focus on with students is to quickly identify the best way to teach them maths as all students are different and learn differently. I was glad to hear that my other year 13 student got into the University of Cambridge and my year 11 student obtained a grade 8 in his GCSE maths. I am excited to hear how well 4 of my year 13 students and 2 of my year 11 students have done with the upcoming results days in August 2022.

When I began working with one of my year 8 students, when she was in year 7, I could see that she was more than capable of the year 8 syllabus. We reviewed the work that many students missed during lockdown then progressed onto the year 8 syllabus so that she would be ahead of her class. Early this academic year she got a Gold in the Junior Maths Challenge and the second highest result in her year. Her and her mother both stated that the prep work we did together helped her tremendously. Currently we are progressing quickly through the KS3 curriculum and I am continuously pushing her boundaries to develop her mathematical ability to its best.

One of my most successful students was when I was tutoring face-to-face. I was tutoring a student in GCSE maths who had been making impressive improvements with her grades in tests since I started working with her. She was working at a 2 (E) grade and over a few months I helped her bring this up to a 5 (C) grade for her final mocks, which is the highest grade one can get in the Foundation Level Maths. I found that this is what she was awarded for her final GCSE grade this recent summer.

From 2017-2019 I was also working as a manager at one of the UK’s biggest camps, being one of the youngest managers as I quickly progressed through roles. I am a big football fan and have been coaching football, amongst other sports, over this time also. Some of my other interests are astrophysics and completing sketches in my portfolio.
