Information about Shaunak

Hi, I’m Shaunak. I have completed my undergraduate third year reading B.A. Mathematics at Merton College, University of Oxford. Currently, I am pursuing an MSc in Financial Mathematics with Queen Mary, University of London.

I completed my GCSEs from a comprehensive school and secured 11 A* s. I taught myself the Further Maths GCSE course as my school did not offer lessons for it. For sixth form, I applied to St. Paul`s School to experience an environment that would challenge me academically beyond the confines of the curriculum. I achieved A* A* A* A in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and French A Levels. Besides academics, I am an accomplished pianist and composer. Having secured Grade 8 at the age of 10, I have performed various solo and ensemble concerts across UK, France, and Germany.

I have a natural inclination towards coaching and mentoring and have undertaken tutoring assignments in Grade music and Maths throughout my teens and early adulthood. I am an avid trainspotter and, during my spare time, I enjoy riding trains and filming the journeys which I publish to my YouTube channel.

Experience: I have been an online Mathematics tutor since January 2022 for students across all ages in secondary school and sixth form. Additionally, I am undertaking a part time PGCE, having spent the 2024-25 academic year in two schools, where I gained expert guidance in lesson-planning, marking papers and pedagogy, among others. Spending time in both state-funded and independent schools, both as a student and a teacher, has given me a well-rounded view of mathematics education and I hope to bring my approach to students varying levels and enthusiasms.

My sessions have covered a range of maths, including GCSE, A Level and Oxbridge Admissions. As someone who took the MAT, I have guided many students meticulously through exam technique, all of whom were shortlisted for the interview stage for which I coached them further by providing mock interviews. I enjoy sharing my love of maths with others, particularly in order to show them that maths doesn`t need to be as intimidating and unintuitive as it is often made out to be! When going through a problem with a student I walk them through each step of the problem and its concepts so they get to apply what I`ve shown them in future problems, even when I`m not around. Each lesson is tailored to each student so that they can get the most out of me in each lesson and time is spent productively.
