Information about Katherine

I am a highly motivated, reliable, friendly and professional tutor and examiner. I have experience working as a Teacher of Psychology & Sociology (Head of department) at an outstanding school in London for over 15 years. The last few years I have concentrated on full time tutoring, an examiner and a content creator for psychology teachers.
I have a Masters Degree in Teaching In Psychology and have been in charge of teaching and learning in my previous roles. This means I understand exactly what the best ways are to teach for success.

I am passionate about my subjects and enjoy working with young people and passing on this passion to them as well as motivating them to reach their potential. I have written many UCAS references and have had many students who have gone on to top universities such as Oxford, UCL, Cambridge and many other Russell Group Universities.

I have the ability to explain and breakdown complicated terminology, theories and concepts to my students thereby increasing confidence and making workload more manageable.

My tutoring sessions are set out to build upon students` existing knowledge and developing this further. My approach is very student-centred tailored to each student`s specific requirements. I use a two-way interactive approach with a focus on tackling areas of weakness that the student may need to work through.

Regular, constructive feedback on student`s progress is always provided so that specific skills and techniques can be worked on to reach target grades.

I believe that in order to achieve success, students benefit from learning good exam techniques, learning how to write excellent essays, working through past exam papers and plenty of practice answering exam questions.

Beyond increased confidence and deeper understanding across both subjects, my students report their GCSE, A Level and other marks surpass their schools’ forecasts.

I also provide small group tuition at all levels for both subjects (no more than 4 students) at a reduced fee.

I have helped students with their UCAS application as well as supported students who are at university and need help with essays/exam questions and research projects. This has been in the form of one to one sessions explaining theories and editing work and online editing and feedback on essay content, application and structure. This has been for Psychology related, Sociology related, anthropology, access courses, and neurology courses.

Currently a full time psychology tutor and content creator for teacher resources websites. Also an examiner for psychology a level.
I have carried out action research on the best ways to learn as well as motivating pupils and understand the stressful time many students are going through and how this can impact progress.
I have worked with a large range of students with many different needs. Understanding these different strengths & weaknesses is key to helping students meet and exceed their target grades.
I have written and been a mentor for students applying for UCAS. Many of my students have gone onto excellent universities. I have now been tutoring for three years.

I contacted Katherine as I am doing an access course and was struggling with a sociology unit. From the moment I contacted her she was prompt and very helpful. Katherine is really knowledgable and her advice and feedback has been easy to understand and, she has gone above and beyond to accommodate me. I would definitely recommend Katherine to anyone needing help in sociology.
