Information about Katie

I’m renowned for making my lessons interesting and relevant, whether this is planning and delivering high calibre targeted revision sessions for specific exam boards, or coaching an individual with strategies to boost confidence and fine tune their skills. I enjoy finding learner specific ways to clarify and explain information in an individualized way.

I give effective praise, constructive criticism and set clear goals for each session. Open and clear communication is vital, and I consistently liaise with students and parents regarding progress and homework. I like to get to know my students, as I can then gear lessons to their interests and create relevant learning resources that will enhance progress. I firmly believe that a fun lesson makes for a happy child and effective learning.

Availability: Although I`m fairly booked up, I do have availability Wednesdays and Thursdays.
I also offer a £5 discount for students willing to travel to my home.

Willing to travel: 4 miles

Experience: I’ve been teaching for 6 years mainly in secondary schools, although I have tutored both primary and secondary aged children in English, Maths and 11 plus coaching. I began my teaching career in an inner London school, then moved to Buckinghamshire as Head of Key Stage 3, Second in Charge of English. More recently I have been Director of English and Literacy at a SEN school I am very adept at tailoring lessons to the needs of the individual.

I graduated with a first-class honours degree from Warwick University, then subsequently qualified as a TEFL teacher, a qualification that has been particularly beneficial with recent changes in the English curriculum and greater emphasis placed on grammar.
