Information about Amy

Amy is an experienced English teacher currently based in London. She has nearly a decade of experience in education, and was awarded her PGCE through the competitive Teach First Leadership Development Programme (2010).

Educated both in the UK and privately abroad (France and Spain), Amy has a personal understanding of a range of curricula. While she studied History and Politics at the University of York, Amy volunteered as a primary classroom assistant, edited one of the award winning student news sites and found time to coordinate the confidential listening service, Nightline. By the time her final year began, she had already been accepted onto the Teach First teacher training and leadership programme.

Amy makes a real effort to convey to her students that the benefits of literature and of learning itself are holistic; she works closely with families to design a curriculum that will be personally enriching for the young people she teaches. Students should be empowered not only to perform well in assessment but also to enjoy and understand the power of English and related literature in other contexts.

Experience: The outstanding quality of Amy’s teaching has been recognised by Ofsted (2017, 2014, 2011) and by senior leadership colleagues observing her lessons; it is also reflected in her results. Year on year, Amy’s students have exceeded their targets. In 2018 all of her students were awarded an A* in iGCSE English Language and Literature and students sitting the GCSE achieved 96% Grade 9-7. Most recently, Amy has successfully worked with 11+ students to gain places at Alleyn’s School, City of London School for Girls and Wimbledon High School. She is currently working with students preparing for entrance to top London day schools.

As well as teaching, Amy has experience with the leading exam boards having marked for Pearson (Edexcel), Cambridge (CIE) and AQA for English Language and English Literature for the last 6 years. Her students’ exceptional outcomes in public examinations come from her mastery of the subject matter, her pedagogical expertise and her acting as a leader both inside and outside of the classroom.
