Information about George

I studied Mathematics at Cambridge University at both undergraduate and Masters level and in March 2023 I finished a PhD in London focusing on the mathematical aspects of gravity.

I started tutoring 10 years ago and have tutored every week for the previous 5 academic years with a total of 15 GCSE students, one FSMQ student, 27 A level students, 19 further maths students and 21 students I helped with their university applications and Cambridge/Oxford interviews for maths and computer science. The students had a wide range of abilities and I was able to accommodate to their various needs. I have been very lucky in that, despite not all of them enjoying mathematics, they have all been very eager to learn which has made them all a delight to teach.

A lot of people have the qualifications to teach mathematics, but the most important part of maths tuition is gauging how much the student is understanding and calibrating your examples such that they are pushed to a high standard without being overwhelmed. As well as this, it is important to be able to invent new ways of looking at things on the spot that you feel are best appropriate for how this particular student learns. I have developed these skills over my years of tutoring and have had a great deal of success with my students.

I aim to maintain a relaxed atmosphere in lessons in order to ensure the student feels comfortable enough to ask questions and most importantly say when they are not understanding something.

Availability: AVAILABLE SLOTS: Thursdays 4-5pm

I prefer lessons to be booked as weekly recurring lessons, though students may enquire if they wish to have ad hoc lessons e.g. to have an intensive set of lessons to prepare for an exam. I can offer additional day time slots for students available during school hours. Please enquire.

If you require any details about how lessons work, do not hesitate to enquire. In particular, for STEP, MAT and CSAT, you may be interested in the opportunity to have work marked and rates are negotiable based on this.

Regarding entrance exams, I teach STEP and MAT mostly, but I am happy to teach TMUA or anything else that is mathematical in nature.

I now charge a flat rate for all levels of mathematics. For those searching for GCSE tutors, I suggest looking elsewhere for better prices. My hourly rate is based on the level of qualification required to teach A level further mathematics to A* standard, as well as university entrance exams.

Phenomenal tutor, who assisted my son through A level maths in one year where he achieved an A*, currently helping through A level further maths, again in one year and has helped him obtain a predicted graded of A*, George was also able to offer advice for the Oxbridge interview process, which resulted in an offer. Outstanding tutor
