Experience: Stepney Green College, London, England— Head of History
July 2016 – Present
Stepney Green is an area in inner city London, located in the borough of Tower Hamlets (the third most deprived borough nationally). The school is all boys, age 11-18. During my time here I taught KS3-5 to the edexcel exam specification (2017 results; GCSE 71% A*-C) I created and shared schemes of work for all key stages, focusing on enquiry based learning and incorporating a diverse range of tasks and assessment points. I have run extra revision sessions, both targeted and voluntary, to support and monitor student progress. Additionally, I run a History Homework club where pupils of all ages can come to complete what they have been set for the week. I have been part of the wider school community by delivering assemblies and sharing best practices during Twilight sessions, for promoting challenge opportunities for higher attaining students as well as developing explanations in written work. Recently I have been working closely with local primary schools to ensure our KS3 transition period is managed effectively within the Humanities department. This year we have had a History PGCE student training at the school who I am mentoring; developing their practice, managing timetables and overseeing teaching and learning. I have also been a form tutor for two consecutive years, seeing pupils through KS4. I have managed staff effectively, implemented interventions with proven results and coordinated the department as a whole. The role frequently requires management of multiple staff, projects and deadlines, as well as carrying out constant monitoring and quality assurance across the department.
Wanstead High School London, England — Teaching Assistant
January 2014 - July 2015
The demographic of the school was an integrated KS3-KS4 school in London. During this role I worked closely within the History Department, designing curriculum maps and lessons, as well as team teaching. As a Teaching Assistant for pupils with SEN I attended training for working with pupils with Autism, promoting mindfulness and developing EAL strategies. I worked with the SENCO to set up a Lexia programme for promoting literacy around the school. I also had an admin role at the school, organising learning walks and book sampling of various faculties. Several school trips were planned and led by myself, working closely with pupils, teachers and parents.
