Information about Jason

Salvē;te! I am a student of the ancient world. I have just finished studying for a degree in Literae Humaniores (Classics) at the University of Oxford, and I hope to go on to further study on a Master`s course next year; ultimately I would like to become an academic. My research interests are focused on early Greek hexameter poetry and Latin elision, but I maintain interests in most areas of Roman and ancient Greek civilisation.

I do not yet know my final degree results, but in the first public examinations I received an overall First, with no individual module less than a 2-1. At school I obtained 6 A* grades at A-level, in Latin, Greek, Classical Civilisation, Maths, Further Maths, and Physics, prior to which I obtained 11 A* grades at GCSE. I am thus also happy to tutor in Maths to GCSE level.

The method of tutoring will of course vary depending on the needs and preferences of the tutee. I am happy to explain difficult concepts or revise topics, or go through questions (or passages in the case of Latin or Greek), or equally respond to queries. If desired, I am happy to set and mark exercises as homework as well. In Maths my approach would probably be to revise each topic and then set questions, and evaluate the approaches of the tutee and offer advice on improvement. For the languages I could either take a method based on strengthening command of accidence and syntax separately, or go through passages.

Availability: I am available from the 4th August to the 25th September 2018.

Willing to travel: 5 miles

Experience: I have done tutoring before, but only on a voluntary basis, due to constraints on my time from my studies. At university I tutored an A-level student in Latin language through the Iris project; at school, I tutored a year 9 student in Latin through a scheme run by the school, on a weekly half-an-hour a week basis, to complement the taught classes. I also assisted a teacher in teaching Latin to a year 7 class and taught a portion of the class (who were behind the others) separately.
