I am trained as a Specialist literacy tutor and have approved teacher status. I have been involved in supporting students with literacy difficulties for around 10 years. After my degree, I trained an an Occupational Therapist, working in areas including mental health and with children with disabilities.
When I became a mum myself, I worked in primary schools as a Level 2 Teaching assistant with a variety of children with learning issues. I subsequently trained as a Specialist Teacher, and hold the Level 5 Gateway Certificate for Tutoring Learners with literacy difficulty, including dyslexia. I am passionate about providing young people with targeted literacy support which is adapted to their needs, and make a lot of effort to ensure my lessons are engaging and enjoyable.
Availability: Monday -Thursdays (variety of times)

Experience: I have supported pupils with challenges in literacy for a decade. I have taught learners with dyslexia and those behind in literacy, first as a Learning Support Assistant in schools, and then as a Specialist Teacher. I have approved teacher status for working as a tutor with pupils with literacy challenges.
My focus is on creating a positive, supportive relationship with my pupil, and aim to make lessons as fun and enjoyable as possible. I work at the students pace this is essential. as many young people struggle to keep up with the pace of learning in the school class.
I assess students for the purpose of finding gaps in their learning, so I can then create a targeted plan of action to support any areas of weakness in spelling, writing and reading. I am empathic and tend to form a very positive relationship with pupils, and put effort in to building their self-confidence alongside literacy skills.
I have an enhanced DBS check and am insured, and am a member of Patoss (Professional Association of Teachers of Students with Specific Learning Difficulties).
DBS Check: Yes
