I am a professional practicing artist specialising in painting, drawing and illustration, mixed media/collage, digital photography/image manipulation, digital storytelling and film making. I have a degree in Visual Arts and have also studied on an MA programme in Participatory & Community Arts at Goldsmiths College, University of London.
I like teaching and learning to be a two way interactive process and like to involve my students as much as possible in decision making, enabling them to take ownership of their own creative learning. I am a calm and relaxed teacher and approach sessions in a patient and understanding manner. I am friendly with a good sense of humour, firmly believing that in order for a student to learn they must also have fun along the way.

Experience: I have worked in various community arts and educational settings for 10 years, facilitating arts teaching sessions across a wide range of ages, abilities and backgrounds. In addition to one-to-one tutoring students at their own homes, I have also taught in schools, libraries, galleries, museums, community centres, health & social care settings, charities, youth groups, refugee centres and prisons. I believe this experience has provided me with a strong grounding and flexibility in teaching techniques, enabling me to cater my methods to the specific needs of each individual student. Most recently I have been employed as an arts practitioner working with offenders in and out of prison for the arts charity Stretch, and as lead artist co-producing a film with the Barnet Refugee Service youth group.

review(s) for Alex.
Alex was extremely helpful for my coursework - he gave some amazing ideas and helped me refine my technique in Photoshop, drawing and painting. I managed to improve from a 7 to 8 thanks to him. I thoroughly enjoyed working with him and would recommend him to any GCSE art student.
Alex is a very friendly, easy going, funny and dedicated tutor. My daughter was instantly inspired as Alex helps her developed her ideas and she is more confident in her artwork. Alex has introduced my daughter to new forms of art media and she is more confident in her art analysis and essays. Alex is punctual and packs a lot into his sessions and he loves what he does.
Alex was very helpful with his tutoring, my son picked up new skills which helped him in his A level`s exams.
We are really pleased with the support that Alex is giving our son Tom. Tom is doing A level Art and Alex is helping enormously with guiding Tom on how his sketchbook & ideas should develop. Tom has some sensory processing issues and requires a little more explaining than others of his age. Alex is very patient and writes down what they have discussed so this is extremely helpful. Tom looks forward to the sessions and finds the support invaluable. I would definitely recommend Alex.
