Information about Alexander

I have a very creative mind, always armed with a unique perspective when approaching any issue, due to my broad range of subjects and skills. As a Classics and Modern Languages scholar at Winchester College and then an Academic Music student at Cambridge I have built skills in logical thinking and pattern-spotting, combining the need to focus on specific details as well as seeing the overall scheme. I am now studying to be an Opera Singer at the Royal Academy of Music, therefore incorporating excellent communication and performance expertise and years of 1-on-1 teacher-pupil experience to my repertoire of skills.

It’s essential to keep in mind that each pupil is individual and therefore it is the teacher’s job to learn from the pupil. I enjoy adapting to different situations and view obstacles as stepping-stones for achievements. Often it is just gentle guidance in the right direction in order to raise the pupil’s confidence that is needed. They must feel comfortable to make mistakes so that they can learn from these and not feel tense and stressed.

I am very sensitive to the individual problems that each pupil is facing. When I learnt classics and languages I found that a healthy balance between all types of learning was most useful. I enjoy thinking up new and creative ways to learn grammar structures and vocab and strongly believe that grammar structures must be understood in order to be memorised and learnt. It is impossible to remember a random series of constructions unless you first see the similarities and slight variances from the same ones in English. Then they become common-sense rather than rope-learning. For the modern languages I find as much immersion in the language as possible to be a very helpful factor so I will suggest songs to listen to and clips from films to watch to help process what we learn.
