Information about Jessica

I am a highly experienced tutor with over eight years of teaching experience. My students have achieved entry to top tier London schools and Russel Group Universities. Among my teaching qualifications I am an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, an award given in recognition of the quality of my five years of undergraduate teaching at University College London.

I hold a PhD in Ancient History, which I was awarded by University College London. Aside from tutoring I am an Early Career Research Associate at the Institute of Classical Studies and Shortland-Jones Rome Fellow 2025-2026 at the British School at Rome.

I published my first academic book with Liverpool University Press, entitled A New History of Ancient Roman Theatre, and am currently working on my second book project. I have also worked at the Greece and Rome Department at the British Museum, on archaeological excavations for Museum of London Archaeology, and as the Expert in Residence at the Classical Association.

I am affiliated with several tutoring agencies: Ivy Education and Hampton Education. I also have a DBS certificate.

Availability: I am flexible with time and am available for home-schooling online. Message me for more details.

Willing to travel: Home Only

Experience: My experience covers a variety of age groups and ability levels, ranging from primary school children to undergraduate students.

I have extensive experience teaching English and History at both GCSE, iGCSE and A level and am experienced with multiple exam boards, including OCR, AQA, Edexcel, and WJEC. I have also been employed as a specialist tutor for Chinese students, for whom English is a second language, to help them gain access to top-tier British schools.

As a Teaching Associate at University College London, I also offer tuition for undergraduates and postgraduate students, particularly with essay writing and proof reading. I have taught subject specific courses relevant to my own PhD research in Roman history and general courses provided to undergraduates to help with the transition between A level and university.

I also offer specialised tuition for Key Stage 1 and 2, as well as the 7+, 11+ and 13+ entrance examinations. I am have worked with students for entrance to North London Grammar School, St Paul`s, and Kings College School Wimbledon. My method of teaching is based around working slowly and carefully through homework and past exams questions, in order to get my student confident with each of their subjects. Once a student has learnt some basic strategies and time management skills it becomes easy to tackle their exam papers and in particular their essays and creative writing tasks.
