Information about Ffion

I am a graduate of the University of Oxford, where I studied history, receiving first class marks in both my prelimary and final examinations. Before that, I gained entry to Westminster School, achieving A* marks in all four subjects I took at A-level, and receiving 100% scores in Philosophy and History. Having competed my own studies, I want to help others to achieve academic success.

Availability: In September I start a GDL law conversion course in preparation for joining international law firm Clifford Chance in February 2022. University work will require my mornings but I will be available to teach across afternoons and evenings throughout the week and available mornings and afternoons over the weekend. I’ve been tutoring since my last year at university, both in Oxford and in London. Among other successes, that’s meant shifting one student from a predicted A-level B grade to an A* in history, helping half a dozen applicants to Oxford to understand the university entrance process and navigate the admissions exams, working with another who was admitted to read philosophy at Cambridge, and tutoring two successful applicants to Westminster School.

I am available both online and in person, and can help with 11+ preparation, GCSEs, A-levels and university entrance tests, as well as with editing personal statements and academic essays.

Experience: I believe that the key to successful learning is knowing HOW to learn, especially in terms of breaking down the skills involved in writing essays, analysing sources, and taking exams – and that most students benefit from a calm, kind and structured approach to learning these new skills.

While many students can find learning daunting, everyone can improve by thinking about these key skills and practising them. I pride myself in giving honest feedback and in helping every student to reach their full potential.

I teach history, philosophy and philosophy of religion at GCSE and A-level; university entrance in history, including UCAS applications, personal statements and the Oxford HAT; interview preparation; and study skills.

To get an idea of how I teach and break down topics, do check out my history blog “FKN’s Rebellion & Disorder | Revision help for OCR A - level” where I published the A-level notes that helped me to my result in 2014. Since then, the site’s clocked up more than 214,000 page views, and has been used by many leading schools (including Haberer Aske’s and Cardinal Newman) and a number of tutors. As one of the latter commented: "I’ve just finished tutoring an A level student who re-sat this exam yesterday. It’s hard to overstate how useful your site has been for us both. Thank you and good luck with your future career. Cliché alert, but I’m saying it because it’s true. If there were more people like you, the world would be a better place."
