Information about Seth

I am a recent graduate of the London School of Economics (LSE) where I studied BA Social Anthropology. Prior to my Bachelor`s degree, I studied at Simon Langton Grammar school and received A*A*A at A-Level in English, Philosophy, and History respectively. Prior to my A-Levels, I received an A* in English Literature for my GCSEs in 2015. I am currently applying for an MFA in Creative Writing.

My tutoring sessions will help students:

- Enjoy the experience of reading literature
- Develop interdependent skills of reading, analysing, and communicating
- Form persuasive personal responses to a range of texts

I come equipped with a plethora of examples and advice for students struggling to visualise how best to complete their essays. The result of these sessions is a student who can express themselves confidently with the pen, and one who knows what to expect before they open their exam paper. Having learned how to clarify and refine their expression, my students will surprise and impress examiners with the strength of their writing.

I like to begin classes with a 10-15 minute discussion on a section of the book, before setting some more specific questions on the author`s intentions. This leads into another discussion, where we decide how best to apply the student’s observations into the format of an essay. Doing so means that the student is thinking clearly about the work, while aware of what the exam boards are looking for. Though I do not set homework, I ask that the student writes five questions to bring to each session. This ensures that the hour is tailored to the student’s blind spots and prompts them to be engaged—it is, after all, their session. Special sessions will also be dedicated to going over the students` essays and discussing where the writing is strong and where it could be stronger.

Availability: I am available Mondays (until 18:00), Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays (until 18:00), Saturdays (after 11:00), Sundays (after 11:00). All online.

Willing to travel: Home Only

Experience: My vocational specialisation is in editorial work; I have been a Sport Editor for an award-winning paper, founder and editor of a successful music blog, and a freelance journalist. In each of these roles, I have seen the benefits of strong writing. I also led English Literature classes at LSE and ran a copy editing service for foreign students who required help with the written word.

The skills my students learn will help them during and beyond their English Literature A-Level.
