Information about Beth

My name is Beth, I am currently teaching at a mixed comprehensive school in Hackney. I have 3 years experience in teaching KS3 Biology, Chemistry and Physics as well as being a specialist in KS4 Biology.

I was KS3 coordinator for the last academic year and thrived when making exam papers for assessments and used assessment data from across the KS3 year groups to make centralised lessons to be used by all teachers in the department and as a result there was huge progress amongst the students and grades remarkably improved.

This year have taken on the role of STEM lead (Science Technology, Engineering and Maths) and in this role I have been integrating the cross curriculum links into lessons, organising the celebration of science during science week in march 2021/2022. I have also involved the students at my school in many extracurricular practicals when running a Science club so that students can learn the necessary skills in order to pursue a career in Science after their schooling years. Furthermore, I run the CREST award which allows students to gets hands on in the science labs and design their own experiment project which ignites enthusiasm and passion into the students to want to learn and apply the necessary skills needed for careers in Science, Technology, engineering and maths.

My teaching style has been described as enthusiastic, memorable and positive. Many of my students have said they had rarely enjoyed science lessons or struggled to learn within the classroom, however my technique and approach to learning changed their mindset and as a result their progress and attainment improved. I often include different ways and techniques to remember concepts and incorporate this into my teaching and consistently see these approaches being used in order to be successful in exams. I am very quick to build positive rapport with students and am often approached by students for extra help or support within and outside science. I love getting to know how different students learn and quickly adapt my teaching in order to get the best results from all.

Three years experience teaching Key stage 3 and 4 in Biology, Chemistry and Physics - Exam specification Edexcel.
