Information about Wendy

During my career, I have taught Science and Maths in a wide range of different secondary schools. I am now a full-time carer and concentrate on coaching pupils online from my home.
There are several ways I help my pupils. Firstly, I can re teach topics they have found difficult in the past. There are many ways of approaching subjects and different methods suit different pupils. In a classroom situation, there might not be the opportunity to adapt learning for individual children.
Many children worry so much about making mistakes that it restricts their progress. I structure their work so that they are supported as much as they need, they, make fewer errors and their confidence improves.
Sometimes, pupils appear to be doing okay in class, but then struggle when it comes to tests and examinations. This can be improved by studying lots of test type questions, using short revision questions each week and by encouraging the students to check their answers at every stage.
Pupils may be set online work by their school. We can look at this together and sort out any difficulties. After many years teaching, I know the types of errors pupils are likely to make and can teach to avoid these mistakes.
I know the different specifications in Science and Maths thoroughly and can often predict the next area of learning. This enables me to ‘pre teach’ areas of a topic, so the pupils are prepared and more confident when it is done in class.
Finally, I try to make the tutoring sessions as enjoyable as possible. If the student is not relaxed and happy, they will not be doing their best.

We love Wendy! She makes the lessons so comfortable and breaks things down very well. She was able to grasp my sister`s ability very quickly and the lessons are definitely catered to what she struggles with most. Laila has been improving in confidence greatly. Thank you so much Wendy, we deeply appreciate all your help.

What a find! We feel so lucky to have found Wendy. She is absolutely brilliant with your 9 year old making the lessons fun and engaging. We have seen real progress in the few weeks that she has been having lessons. Our daughter is also very positive about the lessons which is a huge testimony as, let`s face it, they aren`t really what we all want to be doing on a Saturday morning! Thank you Wendy!

We`ve actually met Wendy at home for an initial meeting with my daughter with a view to her being Cerys` Maths teacher. Lessons commence early September. She put Cerys at her ease and all looks very promising as this is the start of education outside of the mainstream secondary sector
