My name is Dr Tyler Baverstock-Kay and I am an experienced online tutor covering the subjects of Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics at GCSE and A-level.

My experience/qualifications:
- PhD and Masters in Biochemistry (Warwick University)
- 2 years online tutoring experience (1:1 and group) with The Brilliant Club and MyTutor.
-Postgraduate Award in Teaching and Learning at Higher Education (Warwick University)
-Associate Fellowship with the Higher Education Agency

Approach:
-Strong interactive student-focused approach.
-Try to find how student learns best and adjust teaching approach.
-Promote a welcoming/accepting atmosphere and asking all and any questions!
-It is ok to make mistakes, I definitely did when I was younger!

Typical lesson:
1) Clear objectives based off exam board syllabus
2) Hard exam question feedback using traffic light system (This is to work towards to answer at the end of the lesson!)
3) Overview of the threshold concept (the important topic/process being taught)
4) Break down the content together using questions, drawn diagrams, interactive explanations, videos, key word highlighting, definitions, real life examples . I work with you on how you learn best. Encouragement to ask all questions!
5) Return to hard exam question and break it down together with exam technique and using your newfound knowledge and skills. I support you with stepping stone questions for you to reach those answers!
6) Review on content covered
7) Ending quick-fire questions to show more typical exam questions and to test knowledge.
8) Student and tutor feedback. We discuss how you feel about the lesson and the subject. I also provide feedback on content you did really well with and where some practice is needed.
9) Optional homework questions to practice content covered in tutorial, covered next tutorial.

Availability: Tutoring times:
Monday-Friday = Mornings, after-school, evenings, daytime by request.
Weekends = Mornings and Evenings Only

Experience: Experience:
I have 2 years online tutoring experience with other online platforms such as The Brilliant Club and MyTutor. I have taught 1:1 and group sessions. I have received positive assessment feedback from The Brilliant Club for my student engagement and interactivity.

I have also taught at undergraduate level for Biology/Biochemistry for teaching laboratories and short seminars and online workshops as well as 6-month supervision of undergraduate research projects.

Academic Qualifications:
I hold a PhD in Biochemistry and Undergraduate integrated Masters in Biochemistry. This includes an extensive understanding of the fundamentals of Biology such as Microbiology, Pharmacology, Chemistry, Bioinformatics, Genetics and Immunology. I have two academic research publications in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) journal.

Teaching qualifications;
An Associate Fellowship in the Higher Education Agency (HEA): Which shows I am able to plan lessons and lectures, adapt my teaching to a range of audiences and receive/provide constructive feedback on teaching.

A Postgraduate Award in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (Warwick University): This shows I have researched and understood the changing pedagogies (practices/methods of a teacher) during COVID and recent years, reflected on my own teaching experience and observations and assessed the teaching within my own teaching department at Warwick University
