Information about Gundula

The potential of intelligent, proactive and enthusiastic students is unlocked with my carefully curated music lessons. As a highly qualified and experienced violin tutor, my objective for each student is to ensure that they are on the path to beautiful playing and musical fulfilment.

As well as being trained as a classical violinist, I have been fortunate enough to have extensively studied a wide variety of musical styles, including jazz, Romany Gypsy, and Eastern European folk. Additionally, I have vast experience with the Alexander technique as well as other comprehensive methods. This training, in combination with my experiences as a performing violinist and 25 years of coaching allows each lesson to be grounded, effective and unique. I regularly accompany students on the piano in the lessons as extra coaching for exams and performances.

My method of teaching contributes to a healthy physical and mental development. Included is a professional set-up service for your violin, ensuring that both the shoulder rest and chin rest are correct and individually adjusted to your body. This will not just accelerate your technical advancement but will also make playing feel more comfortable and avoid shoulder, neck and back pain.

I take on players of any age, level and skill. My only criteria is that they are interested, motivated, and will commit to practicing regularly. Whilst grade exams are important steppingstones in a player’s journey, I do not perceive such as the overwhelming objective. Instead, my long-term goal is to show students how to get more out of themselves and foster confident and fulfilled players. With this as a foundation, students usually pass exams with

Experience: I have 24 years of experience in teaching the violin and piano, mostly one-to-one. I taught all ages and levels, mostly private students, but also at some institutes and schools in Germany and the UK.

I have 15 years of teaching workshops and masterclasses for Balkan/Gypsy/Eastern European music, improvisation, ensemble playing and music interpretation.

I hold a performance and tutor`s degree for classical violin, and a tutors degree for piano from the Leopold Mozart Konservatorium in Augsburg/Germany. Afterwards I completed a post-graduate course in jazz. My degrees include Music theory, conducting, composition, piano and singing. Since then I have studied many Balkan and Eastern European playing styles from native masters.
