Information about Shannon

I am an experienced Science teacher at a prestigious non-selective secondary School in Southwark (receiving GCSE science 100% grades 9-7 and A-Level Chemistry 94% grades A*- C). I specialise in teaching A-Level Chemistry, GCSE Science and KS3 Science.

My passion for teaching lies within seeing students progress in their studies and achieving their goals. I practice giving tailor-made feedback to all my students and build confidence through knowledge. Building self-awareness for each individual`s capabilities. Allowing students to realise their potential as well as building character allows me to make a difference in and out of the classroom.

It is a priority for students to understand the importance of keeping calm under pressure. I teach exam techniques and help students to gain a deep understanding of content, building confidence and resilience. I have had previous experience tutoring GCSE students seeing results going up from a grade 2 (D/E) to a grade 7 (A/B) by the end of the student`s studies. Using my personal pre-planned lessons, past exam papers, schemes of work and revision booklets I was able to push students to realise their ability.

Good teachers aim to bring out the best in students, I aim to bring out the best in all. I tailor my lessons to match the needs of all my students; beginning my sessions with a short assessment and then adapting my lessons accordingly. Throughout my career I have had extensive training on specific help for kids with special educational needs (Dyslexia, ASD, ADHD, PTSD and more). I create schemes of work that make lessons accessible and challenge children that are higher attaining. I add challenge into learning by teaching problem solving skills as well as relating lessons to the wider world beyond science.

Please feel free to email if you have any further questions or would like to book a session!
