Information about Matt
My name is Matt and Im a tutor with several years of experience, based in the Warrington area. I take a personable approach to tutoring, meaning that I am able to build positive professional relationships with my students and create an environment, in my sessions, where they can thrive. Through regular tutoring sessions I aim to push students towards higher grades and achieve their potential. Most of my students do not come through Tutor Hunt, so (for feedback) I am happy to provide references before going ahead with a lesson.
When meeting a new tutee, I spend time getting to know what they want out of our sessions - informing me on the areas which they may struggle in and providing an initial focus to the lessons. In my sessions, I work with the tutee to produce notes which they can understand and support them in developing the skills they need to structure responses to exam-style questions. Each lesson will also feature an opportunity to test their recall of knowledge from previous lessons. I will provide additional questions/worksheets at the end of the lesson, which they can then use to consolidate their knowledge in their spare time.
Availability: Please contact for my availability as I`m not always able to keep my profile updated. However, I am generally available to tutor on weekdays and weekends, with the exception of Thursdays, both during term times and over half-term breaks. While my sessions are typically 1 hour, I also offer 45 min sessions (charged pro-rata).
I am happy to travel to locations in and around Warrington and, on most days, I can tutor straight after school hours. I can also facilitate remote online tuition, as well as in-person.
I understand that many families have busy lives and, with extra-curricular activities frequently taking up time after school, it can be hard to fit everything in. Due to this, I aim to be as flexible as possible if sessions need to be re-arranged.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: Prior to obtaining my teaching qualifications through the University of Manchester (PGCE in Secondary Science with QTS), I completed a Master of Chemistry degree (Hons) at the University of Liverpool. I also spent a year working in an industrial laboratory, giving me real life context I can provide in lessons.
Currently, I work as a full time teacher, delivering KS3 and GCSE (AQA specification) science at a school in Warrington. However, I have also tutored GCSE students studying the Edexcel GCSE and iGCSE specification. My extensive subject knowledge, combined with my familiarity of the GCSE Science/A-Level Chemistry curriculum means that I am well equipped to tutor at all levels. My current role means I am also fully DBS checked.
