Information about Dominic
I am an enthusiastic & friendly Latin & Greek tutor who has recently graduated from the University of Edinburgh with first class honours in Classics. I undertook an international exchange to McGill University in Canada in my third year, and previously studied at Kings College School, Wimbledon.
Having dedicated a large portion of my education and the last four years of my life towards learning Classical languages I would love the chance to apply the skills that Ive acquired to help people reach the same level and to teach the next generation of Classicists!
I am happy to tutor in all areas of both Latin and Classical Greek, whether its helping students to learn vocabulary, to understand grammar, to translate and analyse set texts or to improve their translation skills. The specifics of what and how I teach depends on each individual student and their end goal - I aim to be flexible so that each student gets the most out of our sessions as possible. Sessions are based around either tackling particular issues that the student has raised, going through the syllabus to check that the student is comfortable with everything required of them or doing exercises that I think will be beneficial to the student`s progression. I offer a free consultation to assess what level the student is at, to discuss any problems that they`re having and to establish what our session are attempting to accomplish.
My aim is to create an informal and comfortable atmosphere that encourages my tutees to engage with the material and develop a genuine passion for Classics. Addressing issues with someone approachable and relatable helps to dispel the lack of confidence created in the classroom & lets students realise that theyre capable of solving problems themselves.
Classics really is a fantastic subject to study since it contains such a wide range of disciplines, offering the study of language, literature, history and philosophy. It is a challenging but prestigious field, regarded favourably by employers and offering routes into a wide variety of professions. Whether youre already an experienced Classicist looking to enrich your skills or are curious as to what the subject might have to offer Id be more than happy to help. I consider myself extremely privileged to have studied Latin and Greek and it would be a delight to spread my knowledge and enthusiasm to others.
