Information about Alex

I teach Mathematics from the basics to Advanced Mathematics, communicating my enthusiasm and passion for the subject to my students. Mathematics fascinated me from a very early age, and there was only one subject I wanted to study at University – Mathematics! Its logicality, rationality and ability to explain complex ideas became a passion that I wanted to communicate to other people so that they could share my passion. That was why I became a teacher.

I taught in a range of schools, but when we founded Education in 2010, it was because we believed completely that ‘Every child matters!’, which became our company slogan. We believe that every child is an individual, and should be treated as one: their questions answered: their problems sorted, so that they reach their full potential.

I share the belief that, through tutoring, we not only increase a student’s subject knowledge but also their confidence and ability to think through and develop ideas for themselves – skills which benefit them throughout their lives. I treat them as individuals, encouraging them to question when they do not understand, and to develop their ideas and knowledge. One of my greatest pleasures is when a student grasps an idea that is either new to them or which they have, until then, not understood and can apply that knowledge correctly.

I am very particular about notation (how we write things) and terminology (how we say things) as I feel that many students lose marks not because they cannot answer the question, but because they do not understand what the question is asking.

Mathematics is a cornerstone of tomorrow’s human life and technology – without Einstein and Stephen Hawking, where would today’s society be? Maybe their successor is the student I am teaching tomorrow!
