Information about Christopher

Five years tutoring experience and one years voluntary teaching experience. University of Exeter Mathematical Sciences 1st class graduate, software engineer in fintech.

I`m very passionate about mathematics, computer science and programming. My teaching method is very flexible and I adapt to the needs of each individual student, providing multiple methods of solving a given problem to allow a student to find a way of thinking that suits them and provides an opening into a better understanding of the fundamentals of a topic.

I have around 5 years of tutoring experience, with 1 year experience as a voluntary teacher working in three schools in West Africa, I have also volunteered in schools in the UK as a swim instructor/maths tutor as well as worked with 16 year olds (including those with special needs) on programmes like NCS.

Availability: Available for in person and online tutoring from the new year

Experience: -I have a total of five years of tutoring experience and one years voluntary teaching. My tutoring experience comes from a multitude of students at a range of ages and abilities in both Norfolk, Devon and Cornwall. I have tutored from ages 10 to 16 at the level of 11+ to GCSE level. At this time I sought out work via recommendations and self-advertising. I tutored alongside my a levels, and when I returned from my voluntary year abroad it was my primary income for 2017/18.

-I taught multiple subjects including mathematics in three different schools in the Liati district of the Volta region of Ghana, West Africa for 12 months with the charity Project Trust. I worked in rural schools the West would recognize as severely under-resourced, with bizarre conditions such as goats or machetes in my classroom. It was a challenging year but an incredibly valuable one. The year not only challenged me physically and emotionally but allowed me to see first-hand the disparity of opportunity in the world.

-I have also worked alongside a family in Cornwall to homeschool their two children aged 12/14 in Mathematics. There was no structure of teaching to keep to and therefore the direction of their learning was an ongoing discussion between myself and the parents. It was a very rewarding process and something i’d definitely do again.

-Beyond these I have also volunteered as a student mentor and swim instructor in a school in Devon and as a team leader on the NCS programme for 16 year olds (including some with special needs).
