I am a Civil Engineer and Project Manager, having graduated from Cambridge University with a first class degree in Engineering. I now work with construction contractors and clients to deliver transport projects - and enjoy using my maths to solve real world problems.
I believe that very often confidence is the issue when it comes to maths, and sometimes a different way of explaining the same topic and some 1:1 support can make all the difference - I used to benefit from having my maths teacher dad at hand when I needed that little extra help!
My approach is to start with the principles and ensure they are well understood, and then build confidence in applying them through worked examples - starting with the straight-forward and gradually increasing in difficulty until mastered. I don`t believe in being a slave to an exam board, but it is important to understand how to read an exam paper, how to interpret the question, and, crucially, how to answer it - so that knowledge of the subject can be rewarded with results, and I`d look to help students with this as well as the maths itself.
I`m happy to help out with a specific topic that`s causing a mental block, or support longer term learning with a structured programme to complement the school curriculum.

Experience: This is my first venture into maths tutoring, but I have often helped friends, family and colleagues with maths problems - often the use of maths in spreadsheets, but sometimes more traditional pen-and-paper or calculator maths. I have also mentored junior colleagues with their career progression, and I`ve successfully taught many people to row at my local club. I have a patient communication style, as well as subject knowledge.
