Information about Mandy

I am a qualified primary school teacher with over 12 years teaching experience. For the last 2 years I have enjoyed my role as deputy head teacher of a small rural primary school in Preston. I`m married and have 2 little boys.

During my teaching career I have taught across all three primary Key Stages: EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. My teaching has consistently been graded as outstanding and my wealth of experience in primary education means I am skilled at understanding a range of pupils` academic abilities, the challenges they may face and how best to engage them in their learning. I`m passionate about teaching and take pride in the achievements of all of my pupils.

Being deputy head teacher and prior to that senior teacher for 6 years, has meant that as well as teaching my own class, I have been used across school in a range of boostering learning situations. This may have been 1:1 work or small group work during lunchtimes or after school in order to prepare children for SATs tests (both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2). This has included working with children who may have been struggling with aspects of their learning but also working with able, gifted and talented children to ensure they realise their full potential.

I always ensure my teaching is adapted to meet the needs of the individual learner. I am kind, patient and friendly and find that I`m quickly able to build relationships with pupils based on mutual respect. I enjoy teaching and strongly believe learning should be fun and rewarding.

Early Years Foundation Stage
My degree specialism was in the advanced study of early years education. I`ve spent many years teaching in Reception and I was chosen to become a leading early years teacher. My wealth of experience in early years has led to me being used to support teachers in other schools through leading cluster groups and training. Phonics is a particular strength of mine and I have a range of practical and fun activities available for young children.

Tutoring style:
My approach to tutoring is very much dependent on the individual pupil`s needs, age and learning style.
Sessions are planned, structured and take into account learning from the previous session.
Skills will be practised in fun, practical and meaningful ways.
I will keep detailed records of how your child is progressing which I will share with you on a regular basis.
My main aim as a tutor is to improve your child`s confidence so that he/she can become an independent learner.

I am happy to travel to where you`re located or for your child to come to my home.

Just a quick update - we received the fantastic news yesterday that our son has a place at LRGS against the odds of being out of the catchment area which means his score had to be even higher! He is absolutely thrilled, as are we. Thank you Mandy for helping Eric to achieve his dream!

I located Mandy on behalf of my daughter to tutor my grandson and lessons only commenced the first week of October, however my daughter has indicated that she is very happy with Mandy`s tutoring and my grandson works well with her.

I contacted Mandy in May as we were looking for some extra help for my 10 year old son to prepare for his entrance exam for grammar school. At the same time my 6 year old son’s behaviour at school had got to the point where he had a placement at a pupil referral unit. We were so worried about him.
From our first contact Mandy was professional, friendly ,warm and understanding. She met both of our boys and quickly pinpointed what support they needed and how to approach this with them given their personalities and experiences of school.
The progress they have made since has been incredible. My eldest boy is taking his exam in 2 weeks and I feel he couldn`t be better prepared. Mandy has ensured his time with her is interesting and varied. She has struck up a brilliant relationship with him and he always comes out of his lessons with a smile on his face and full of confidence and enthusiasm. The biggest change is with our younger son. Mandy managed to quickly get to the root of his frustrations at school and how this was affecting his behaviour. Mandy`s approach to our son was perfect and reassured us that we would be able to turn our his situation around and help him integrate back into mainstream school. The preparation and insight that Mandy puts into planning every session is amazing and she always takes the time to talk afterwards and listen to my thoughts and questions. It really feels like we work as a team and the results have made such a difference, not only to our boys but our family as a whole (we also have a 4 and 2 year old!).
My 7 year old is now in year 3 in the same school as his brother and the dramatic improvement in his self-esteem is clear to see. His writing, reading and maths are already 10 times better and he has even had a certificate for his attitude to his work!
Mandy is very understanding of our hectic lifestyles and is always flexible. Whatever your child’s needs I wouldn’t hesitate to say give Mandy a call. I’m so glad I did!
