Information about Geoffrey
I am a violin and piano teacher, teaching on the weekends across London and surrounding areas including Finchley Road, Wembley and Harrow. I currently work as a Human Rights lawyer in London and had studied violin, piano and chamber music performance at the Royal College of Music.
On the weekends, I teach a handful of talented young music students between the ages of 4 and 11 years old on a one-to-one basis, often in preparation for their 11+ music scholarship auditions.
I am particularly familiar with the level required and the necessary preparations for these auditions, having passed grade 8 (with distinction) in violin and piano at the age of 11, I was offered a number of scholarships, including City of London School and Latimer, where I completed my GCSE with the former.
Afterwards, I was awarded a music scholarship at the prestigious Harrow School where I completed my secondary school education. I then went onto studying Economics at UCL and later qualified as a Human Rights lawyer.
I specialise in preparing students towards their Grade 1-8 exams in accordance with ABRSM and Trinity Syllabuses, as well as gearing students to enter secondary school scholarship examinations.
Throughout my music career which spans over a decade, I was a first violinist at the University of London Symphony Orchestra. As a keen ensemble player, I headed Harrow School`s Piano Quartet which won the National Chambers Music Competition in 2003 and 2004. My past audience includes the Princess Royal and the Lord Mayor of London.
I regularly perform in Charity Galas such as Save the Children, whose concerts are often televised across Asia. I was also filmed as part of the BBCs drama, Being April and have appeared on numerous televised programmes across the world.
I enjoy travelling with small ensembles and orchestras, having performed in Italy, Hong Kong and Malaysia with internationally renowned artists including Julian Lloyd Weber and Nicola Benedetti.
Result-driven, I seek to encourage pupils to work hard and ensure they have a good work-mentality when it comes to practicing and performing. Ultimately, my goal is to help the next generation of young and bright musicians reach their full potential.
Availability: Due to a heavy number of students, I am only available on Saturdays until further notice.
Willing to travel: Home Only
Experience: I mainly teach students between the ages of 5 to 10 years old with an emphasis on gearing them towards 11+ exams and (academic and music) scholarship preparations. The majority of students who I have taught are regularly accepted into top 50 schools across greater London.
I have a keen eye for ensuring good habits are adopted from the outset with a particular emphasis on correct technique and musicality. Students are normally required to practice between 30-60 minutes per day, depending on their level and how fast they wish to improve. Parents` involvement is encouraged to ensure the learning is fun and interactive.
