Experienced maths teacher and full-time online tutor with a 1st class honours degree and PhD in Maths. I have a strong track record in coaching students for A-Levels (Maths and Further Maths). My tutoring services include:
*Producing notes and model solutions during lessons that I email to tutees within 24 hours of the tutorial
*Setting homework that I mark ahead of the next lesson thereby providing expert feedback on areas that require improvement
*Marking exam papers and providing expert feedback based on my experience as an examiner
*Creating bespoke revision programmes for tutees and helping them prepare to cope under the exam pressure
*Analysing papers to produce predicted papers for the GCSE and A-Level exams

Experience: I’m a professional tutor. I don’t do tutoring on the side of another job or in my spare time. It is my full time job and I am self employed so I treat it with the seriousness that it deserves rather than as a hobby. I take all my holidays over the summer when there is much less demand for my time. I am therefore available for lessons during half-term breaks or Christmas/Easter holidays.

I have a PhD in applied maths (in addition to a 1st class degree and MSc with distinction in Maths). This has provided me with the expertise in some extremely difficult mathematics and allows me to fully understand and explain concepts as opposed to repeating steps without comprehending them. My experience is that this is essential for very bright students aiming for an A* in maths.

I’m a former GCSE and A-Level Maths (and Further Maths) teacher with a PGCE in Maths. This has provided me with the coaching skills necessary to deliver the curricula to students in a way that they can understand. While at school I taught A-Level pure maths, mechanics and statistics. Most schools have teachers that specialise in only one of these meaning that 2 or 3 teachers/tutors are needed to teach maths effectively.

Of the ten students I taught Maths and Further Maths to last year (for exams in 2023), all but one achieved either an A or A*. Of particular note, one of my students scored an average of 91% for the A-Level exam whilst still in year 12 while another student scored 97% in one her A-Level maths papers.

The price that you pay doesn’t just pay for a single one hour lesson. In addition to this I also prepare homework questions following each lesson that are specific to the topic we’ve covered (as opposed to just sending a worksheet from a website). I am also happy to be contacted outside of lessons to look over any work or provide worked solutions. I generally reply to such requests by the end of the day. Finally, following each A-Level exam paper, I spend time analysing the previous paper to determine which topics are likely to appear in the following paper. Following this I will create a set of exam questions that are similar to those that I believe will appear in the next paper. This is something that takes a considerable amount of time (and in my opinion can only be done by an experienced teacher/tutor) but which my students have found particularly useful in the past.

May daughter has gained enormously from Alastairs tutoring. He has unlocked for her the tricky concepts and questions she has had and does so in such a positive and clear way. She says he explains everything so well. She is looking forward to continuing the sessions.
