I am an experienced maths teacher and full time tutor with a 1st class honours degree and PhD in Maths. I have a strong track record in teaching the new GCSE, A-Levels (Maths and Further Maths) and university level maths.

I have spent the last few years tutoring and teaching. I spent the last three years teaching the new A-Level and GCSE and have specialised in converting students with predictions of grade 6 or 7 into grades 8 or 9. Of the 29 students in my most recent GCSE class 11 achieved a grade 9, 14 achieved a grade 8 and 4 achieving a grade 7.

I have an excellent understanding of university level maths and the new A-Level (Maths and Further Maths) including Statistics, Mechanics and Decision maths. This knowledge is further enhanced by my PhD which was heavily maths based.

As part of any programme of tuition I also mark tutees work in order to identify possible mathematical misconceptions which are addressed during future tutorial sessions.

**Experience: **I have been a teacher for four years and a tutor for five years. Teaching in school has given me an excellent understanding of the entire syllabus which I have taught to multiple classes on a daily basis. As a teacher I have been responsible for marking exam papers for GCSE and A-Level classes on a regular basis. This has given me insight into all the different misconceptions that exist in GCSE/A-Level maths and is something I am able to address when running one-to-one sessions. This classroom experience, together with my deep understanding of the syllabus, is something that cannot be reproduced by tutoring alone.

Alastair is a great maths tutor. He has made maths very simple to understand for my son in the short time they have worked together. I am glad I decided to give online tutoring a try!

**Beata (Mrs)***06/02/2020*

Alastair is an excellent tutor. At the beginning I was not convinced about online tutoring but now I think it is a great way of teaching. My daughter is really happy about the progression she is making in Further Maths (not an easy subject). It is all down and thanks to Alastair and his engagement with students and his method of teaching. Now she understands more and more, she is more confident and not afraid of tricky questions.

**Michelle (Mrs)***03/02/2020*

Alastair is an amazing tutor. My son looks forward to his tutoring sessions as Alastair has the enviable knack of making maths fun! He breakdowns concepts into easily understandable explanations, creates a strong foundation around the students knowledge of the topic and instills confidence in the student. He follows up with excellent session notes and exercises to cement the topics covered. I would highly recommend Alastair as a 1st class tutor.

**Rafiq (Mr)***31/01/2020*

Alastair is a very helpful and knowledgeable tutor. He has familiarity with even the deepest darkest parts of the Further Maths specifications. Looking forward to carrying on our lessons.

**Nemr (Mr)***08/01/2020*

Dr Alastair is an amazing, kind and enthusiastic teacher. When tackling mathematical problems, he makes sure I understand why it is we tackle it in the steps required, as opposed to just "how to tackle the problem". In addition to deepening my understanding of maths, I have learned new skills and techniques that have helped me take my exams with greater confidence - I highly recommend Dr Alastair.

**Melanie (Mrs)***25/11/2019*

Alastair is methodical and consistent in his teaching methods and has a positive and engaging communication style with his students. Our son has started to enjoy mathematics (GCSE higher) again and gaining confidence. If the progress continues, the plan is to take the advanced mathematics stand alone paper.

**Rachel (Mrs)***11/11/2019*

Alastair is an excellent tutor. He has taken the time to really understand my learning style and how to help me progress as quickly as possible. He is very good at explaining challenging maths concepts and has really helped me. I would highly recommend him as a tutor.
