Information about Paula
*** Currently a few spaces for September 2026 - Current year 11 & 12 students moving into year 12 & 13****
I have been teaching Psychology and Sociology for over 18 years and have extensive experience supporting students both in the classroom and through one-to-one tutoring. I work with GCSE and A-level students studying OCR and AQA specifications.
Over the years Ive helped many students significantly improve their grades and confidence in the subject. It is very common for students working with me to make around two grades of progress over the course of an academic year. A lot of this comes down to focusing on the areas students typically find most difficult particularly research methods, structuring strong exam answers, and developing clear evaluation and application.
Alongside my teaching experience, I also have experience marking for AQA examinations, which gives me a strong understanding of how exam responses are assessed and what examiners are looking for.
My tutoring sessions are structured but relaxed and supportive. One-to-one teaching allows me to quickly identify where students are struggling and explain things in a way that makes sense to them. We work on both subject knowledge and exam technique so students feel much more confident approaching assessments.
I am happy to tutor face-to-face locally where possible, or online. Many students are surprised at how effective online tutoring can be it allows us to work through exam questions, essays and feedback together in a very focused way.
Alongside teaching, I am currently training as a counsellor, which further supports the way I work with students helping them feel comfortable, supported and able to ask questions without pressure.
Students often describe me as approachable, easy to get along with, and good at explaining difficult ideas in a clear and manageable way.

Feedback For Paula (1)
Jonathan (Mr)
29/07/2018

Paula was a godsend for us.
My daughter became very demoralised with A level Psychology in the run up to the exams. She found it hard to get the evaluation marks on the long answers, even where she knew the subject matter well, and her school didn`t seem to have any time for her.
Paula`s patience and resourcefulness, not to mention her rock solid knowledge of the syllabus and marking schemes, really turned things around. In the end we got through the exams without any tears (well, not in the Psychology exams anyway).
My only regret is that we didn`t turn to Paula a bit earlier on in the school year.
