Information about Andrea
I`ve been a qualified teacher for 14 years, specialising in maths and physics and earth sciences (geography and geology. I was head of maths for 10 years in both state and independent settings.
I graduated from the University of Portsmouth in 2006 with an engineering degree in Engineering Geology & Geotechnics, before completing my PGCE in mathematics. I worked as a coastal defence engineer for 2yrs before returning to teaching.
Over the duration of my teaching career I have completed my Post Graduate Diploma to become a qualified teacher of the deaf, a Masters Degree in Mathematics Education and an a Post Graduate Certificate in advanced audiology.
I completed my Teacher Subject Specialist Training in secondary physics to become a qualified physics teacher and teach physics to A Level.
I also teach core sciences (biology, chemistry and physics) to KS3 (year 9).
In addition to maths and physics I also teach geography to GCSE. This all comes from my background in Earth Science having read engineering geology at university. To this end I also tutor geography and geology to A Level.
I have taught in special schools for deaf children and am well practised in delivering for highly differentiated learning needs, catering for those with significant learning difficulties as well as challenging those who are gifted and talented.
In the independent sector I have experience of teaching to the 11+ and Common Entrance levels 1, 2 and 3 in mathematics.
My teaching style is focused on the individuality of my students. I pride myself on being able to adapt sessions to needs of students to ensure that they understand concepts rather than just remembering processes. My sessions are focused on direct instruction and deliberate practice, and try to facilitate this as much as possible while still maintaining a suitable pace when prepping for exams.

The most amazing tutor! Has really helped me boost my maths skills even at University level, which meant I have passed all my tests! All it took was four hours, and I felt smarter every minute, and her way of explaining everything is just amazing! Definetly recommend her!

Andrea was extremely kind, patient and understanding with our daughter, helping her improve for her Physics GCSE. Our daughter has come along leaps and bounds, in both understanding and in confidence in the subject. It has gone from being one of her worst subjects to one of her best, and her grades have improved massively. Her school teachers have commented on how good her exam technique now is. We would have no hesitation recommending Andrea for anyone struggling in this subject

Both my son and I have been so pleased with how professional Mrs Ruck is as a Tutor, how student focused she is and how she approaches tutoring overall in Physics. She is engaged, collaborative, and ensures our son has properly grasped the learnings from the lesson.
