Information about Oliver
I studied Music at Manchester University, specialising in performance on the Piano, Violin and Bass Guitar, before completing my MA in Acting at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. I am a passionate Instrumental teacher and can draw on my classical training or experience in Jazz, Musical Theatre and Pop to cater lessons to each student. As a Drama tutor I am happy helping young actors find develop their confidence on stage or helping with applications to Drama School.
Professional Experience as an actor includes Jane Eyre (UK Tour), Maggie May (Royal Court Theatre Liverpool) and A Christmas Carol (Windsor Castle). As a Musician I continue to perform and record professionally in a wide variety of musical styles and ensembles. Including Violin in Folk bands, Bass Guitar in Jazz and Rock bands and accompanying Cabaret and Jazz singers on the Piano.
Availability: I am available on Weekends and after school hours during the week.
Willing to travel: 3 miles
Experience: I am a classically trained Violinist with experience playing in Orchestras and solo recitals. With this in mind I am happy teaching the ABRSM syllabus and any aspiring classical player. I also have experience playing Folk, Gipsy Jazz and Pop so if the student wants to venture away from the Grade system and classical training I am happy to help with these different styles! The same is true for my Piano playing as this was my primary study at University so have experience performing solo recitals and accompanying classical singers. I have also accompanied musical theatre choirs and other Jazz and Pop singers so I am happy to help students with reading chord charts, lead sheets and learning how to solo. I have worked at performing arts camps for young people in America and for Performers Club (Glynde). For both of these I worked closely with the young people on the course to write a brand new play to be performed to parents and peers. As a Bass Guitarist I have played with MYJO and other University Jazz bands. As a Bass Teacher I will help students with sight reading Big Band bass parts and reading chord sheets for smaller Jazz ensembles. I have also played in Rock and Pop bands so can help students play more confidently in these styles.
I completed my MA in Acting at the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and I am now a professional Actor. I have experience running acting workshops and training students who are applying for Drama School. As an MA student I have been able to watch future students audition and have learnt what it takes to get a place. This is not just selecting the perfect Classical and Contemporary monologue but helping the student understand the theoretical aspects of Acting that they will encounter whilst studying. I am happy to help young actors develop their confidence on stage for an up coming school production and for their LAMDA exams. I also have tutoring experience helping GCSE and A Level Drama students.
