Information about Sahar

Making a difference in the lives of students to help them achieve and bring out their full potential is what drives my passion and dedication. As a qualified Lawyer by profession and having worked within the legal sector for over ten years, I have had the opportunity to combine academia and practical experience. This has enabled me to examine the legal frameworks that regulate and shape decision making and more so, challenge and ignite passion in the minds of today’s young future prospects.

My passion for Law and my goal to help students, makes teaching the perfect career to really make a difference. It is not only an exciting prospect, but it is a challenging and immensely rewarding profession, requiring a quality that I have of true dedication. Currently, I am studying the PGCE in Post Compulsory at UCL Institute of Education, which I complete in June 2017.

Experience: I have experience teaching BTEC Applied Law Certificate & Applied Law Subsidiary Diploma to students within the sector in my current teaching placement at Richmond Upon Thames College. I have carried out summative assessments, by grading the students’ assignment in accordance with the BTEC course expectations/explications. I closely monitored the progress of the students and found ways to support them to achieve a better standard. Additionally, I assessed the students’ progress through various forms of formative assessment such as questioning to scaffold or further challenge them, through 1:1 discussions of how to improve their learning and marking their coursework, which lead to meaningful feedback. This is done to ensure they are able to apply the application of law to their assignments, and moreover to grasp if they have a solid understanding of the topic taught. I further deploy different teaching methods to get the students engaged, such as use of extension activities, problem scenarios, crossword puzzles and use of blended learning. As well as this, I have led intervention classes, to support students with their resubmission work, particularly how to apply the legal concepts taught to their assignments.

I have excellent communication skills, both written and oral as my delivery of information to the learners is professional, strong and clear. Learners are able to understand key concepts fluidly and I am able to break down the information that needs to be communicated in small digestible chunks. Moreover, I have had experiences dealing with various learners where my interpersonal and communication skills have been paramount in building positive rapports and being able to be open and converse freely regarding their situation. Moreover, I believe an integral part of our role as educators is to listen and understand individuals. I approach all situations and individuals with empathy and thoughtful consideration, respecting each person as an individual as opposed to a number in my lesson.
