Information about Robert
I am an ex-headteacher with many years experience. I have taught reception children as well as Year 11 children in numerous types of schools. My teaching career culminated in becoming Head of an outstanding independent Junior School and in this role I was a mentor to Newly Qualified Teachers facilitating their path to becoming fully qualified teachers.
I am particularly interested in guiding and preparing children to pass common entrance exams as well as the 11 Plus. However, I am also passionate about helping all children reach their full potential.
Availability: At present I am free most evenings after school as well as weekends.
Willing to travel: 20 miles
Experience: I went to Nonington College of Physical Education Where I studied the Art and Science of Movement and primary school professional studies. I achieved my Certificate of Education in 1975.
My first teaching post was at Branfil Junior in Upminster as classroom teacher for one year covering for maternity leave.
In 1976 I Taught P.E. in Harrow lodge Secondary school in Upminster until 1981.
During !981- 1992: on passing my Knowledge of London I became a Licensed London Taxi Driver and proprietor. I worked full time in this capacity. I was self-employed and ran my business successfully for 9 years. When I started working for LBWF as a supply teacher I continued to operate as a London Cabbie. I still hold a current London Cab drivers License.
I missed teaching and worked as a supply teacher for the London Borough of Waltham Forest until 2002 when I returned to full time teaching at Selwyn Primary School in Highams Park, London. There I had various posts of responsibility:
2002 2008: Science Coordinator responsibility to raise the profile of Science in key stage 2
2008 2011 ICT Coordinator - main duties to establish coherent tracking database for key stage 1 and 2 lead on using Fronter MLE to produce online reporting by 2012 & responsibility for covering staff absences.
In 2011-2014 I became Head of Junior school at Normanhurst School in Chingford. My post as head of juniors at Normanhurst School involved line managing six teachers and midday assistants overseeing the EYFS department mentoring Newly Qualified Teachers, resolving issues with parents running regular staff meetings that ensured the smooth running of the junior department initiating an effective pupil tracking system in order to affectively support those identified as underachievers liaising with the S.E.N.C.O department ensuring that all childrens needs were met as efficiently as possible.
I also lead inset sessions in Literacy by introducing the Ros Wilson approach to writing and encouraging reading buddies from different year groups. This helped to raise the standard of literacy throughout the Junior Department.
I also taught year six children for 60% of their lessons during my time at Normanhurst.
I have successfully organised and run whole junior school trips on several occasions.
I enjoyed my time at Normanhurst but due to my parents becoming unwell, I needed a less demanding job to help them so I returned to my other profession as a London Hackney Cab Driver in 2014.
I have had various temporary employments since then:
I joined Tradewinds recruitment agency and worked in several schools in the Colchester Area on a supply basis.
Oaklands School, Loughton. from April 2016 - July 2016 teaching year 6 tasked with preparing this class for 11+ and common entrance examinations.

We are extremely pleased with Robert as a tutor for our daughter. Robert is easily approachable, friendly, professional and very patient. Our daughter really felt that she learnt a great deal from her lessons with Robert. Robert made our daughter feel very relaxed and also helped her overcome her anxiety about sitting the exam. We would defiantly recommend Robert as a tutor to anyone.
