Information about Jean
I am a highly qualified and experienced teacher with additional qualifications for Dyslexia and other special needs.
I love to enable people of all ages to reach their full potential and can help to remove the barriers to learning and boost confidence. I have a friendly and calm personality and lots of patience. Both young children and adults soon feel comfortable with me and are able to engage fully with teaching which is individually tailored to their needs and learning style.
Following an initial lesson, to gather background information, get to know the learner and carry out a short assessment of needs, I will prepare an individual learning programme that supports the student to attain their learning goals. This will involve homework and tests/exam questions if required.
I also enjoy supporting older students and adults with study skills and technical writing skills for projects and exam preparation as I have experience of studying at higher levels myself.
Testimonials
Our dyslexic son (age 10), really enjoys his weekly sessions with Jean and he never complains about attending. She manages to hold his interest and keep him enthusiastic in learning by using a variety of teaching techniques. Each lesson is varied, fun and interactive but also structured. His primary school teacher has also noticed significant improvements in our sons confidence and skills in reading and writing. We can definitely recommend Jean . October 2019
My 7 year old son T has been having tutoring sessions with Jean now for 5 months. He has diagnoses of ASD, language disorder and ADHD and is usually considered demand avoidant and difficult to teach. However, Jean took time to read his EHCP and professional reports in advance of the first session and subsequently adapted the teaching approach to meet his needs. She was able to build a rapport with T quickly and clearly understood his difficulties. She is very calm and adaptable, which helps tremendously when working with children with additional needs. As a consequence T looks forward to his tutoring sessions and has been making some great progress - both in terms of the subject content (maths) and also in his approach and attitude to learning.
Jean is also very organised and communicates well for organising sessions and discusses progress informally after each session. I would highly recommend her tutoring service.

Jean has been teaching Zak (nearly 14) for several months. Zak has significant difficulties with maths and has struggled with the subject throughout school.
Jean patiently tried various approaches and has now hit on an area where Zak is able to see maths as a practical life skill, and as a subject in which he is able to succeed. Jean`s calm and tolerant attention to and support of Zak has made a real difference to his view of maths and of his own abilities and potential. Though he has to travel to his lesson, and it is in the evening, Zak clearly likes and trusts Jean, and actually enjoys learning with her. We feel fortunate to have found Jean and hope she will be able to continue to support Zak`s learning as he enters the last phase of school.
