Information about Oliver
Hi, I’m studying Architectural Engineering BEng and have been tutoring for just over a year. Maths, together with physics, fascinates me. It led me to create a realistic solar system simulation using Newtonian mechanics in C# for a project at college. I find it immensely rewarding when students gain confidence in these subjects, given areas can be daunting at first. I want to end misconceptions that not all students can excel in these subjects.
I aim to make my lessons as engaging as possible, ensuring students feel sessions are tailored for them and their needs. A tablet, phone or camera would, therefore, be a great addition for students so I can check their understanding and work on problems together in a structured, logical way.
Lessons could begin with a topic new to the student. In this case, I`d demonstrate solving problems with the new skills. Then, together, we would complete worked examples of different scenarios to embed these new abilities. I`ll present the student with exercises to complete with me available for any assistance. From here, the student and I will decide together when to practice more complex scenarios or move on. Towards the end of a lesson, we`ll make sure the lesson objective has been met, and that the student is happy and confident with what they`ve learnt. Often, homework will be assigned for the student which will be reviewed during the next lesson.
Students will have a personal area online to download/upload any work or material which can help them succeed with independent work along with progress reports.
Availability: I`m currently offering online lessons only.

Experience: My first experience tutoring was at my primary school, where I volunteered to take small groups from class to practice their maths skills. The groups were compromised of able students who needed to be stretched and students who required extra support to keep up with their classmates.
Whilst at college, I decided to begin tutoring my sister to prepare her for GCSEs. Shortly after, her friends joined us via zoom where we held weekly group sessions to recap what they had learnt online. Then I began to tutor more regularly. I helped multiple GCSE maths and science students remotely when schools were closed, particularly with homework and independent work.
