Experienced teacher of GCSE and A-Level Media, as well as GCSE English Literature and Language. Now starting to take bookings for the new academic year, 2023/2024.
I`ve taught in Secondary schools since graduating and have been at my current school since 2009. As head of department, its fair to say I specialise in Media Studies both GCSE and A-Level. I also teach GCSE English and KS3/KS4 English - specialising in transactional writing and narratives, but can also help with literature too (Romeo and Juliet, An Inspector Calls, Of Mice and Men, Lord of the Flies etc
..I know them all!). So to clarify, if you study any of the below, I`ll be able to help.
*AQA and WJEC/Educas GCSE English Language
*AQA and WJEC/Educas GCSE English Literature
*WJEC/Educas GCSE Media Studies
*WJEC/Educas A-Level Media Studies
*AQA A-Level Media Studies
One of the key parts of my online tutoring sessions-the part students tell me is most helpful to them-is when the student and I write an exam response together, with the intention of matching that response to a target grade. Want an A in A Level Media? Well write a series of response together, so you can see how theyre structured and so that you have a bank of responses to add to your revision (more useful than endless notes! See content put into practice!). Need a 7 in GCSE English Literature? Well analyse an extract together, look at structure and then write that grade 7 response. Struggling for ideas for a narrative for GCSE English Language? Well look at my foolproof way of coming up with engaging stories and start to write a response together. Whatever you need, Ill tailor the content of the session and the writing of a response around the grade you are aiming for.
I like to make online lessons as engaging and dare I say it....as `enjoyable` as possible (a sense of humour is important, especially given my cat often makes unplanned cameo appearances...!). It`s important to distinguish between online lessons and your regular lessons. Though they may feel similar, my role is slightly different in that I will aim to fill in the gaps you may have and build your confidence to prepare you for your exams/assessments/tests...whether that is A-Level, GCSE or anything at KS3!
I look forward to working with you!
Availability: Evenings after school and weekends...but I try to work around you!

English is my sons weak point, but after working with Joe, he has massively improved in English. Joe helps him to understand how to use techniques that even his school doesnt teach. I know that my son will achieve high marks in his GCSEs in a few years time while working with Joe.
