Information about Frances

I am a British qualified teacher with over thirty year experience in education. I have taught every age group up to secondary level and have taught adults too.
Most of my teaching has been in British schools in the Middle East where English was for some children a second if not third language. I have also worked with Special Needs children. I set up Achievement Centres where children could receive support and guidance yet still be in a main stream system.
I have had experience of working with children that have Aspergis Syndrome, Autism and Down’s Syndrome and have tutored individually, a child with dyspraxia, a child with Dyslexia and one that was deaf.
As a class teacher I worked privately as a tutor. This mainly involved teaching Korean children English and I did teach a young GCSE student English Literature,
Whilst working as a consultant in Early Years education in 2007 I tutored young Arab girls in English preparing them for the IELTS exam. This was for them to obtain commercial work or to gain a place at university.
As a consultant I was involved in tutoring Arab teachers in spoken English and phonics and also assisting them in preparing lessons
I taught adults Child Development on a course run by Dundee College to obtain the SVQ [Scottish Vocational Qualification] I assisted them with essay writing and planning for activities for children. Following this I worked as a mentor and moderator for both Sunderland and Nottingham Universities who ran PGCE Courses in Dubai United Arab Emirates. I trained and aided students to obtain this qualification assisting with essay writing, lesson planning and observing their teaching.
As a Director of an Early Learning Centre I implemented professional development for all staff and ran courses for them in Safeguarding, The Early Years Curriculum, Health and Safety, Child Development and Special Needs.
Together with a qualified British nurse we ran a course in Child Care that was recognised by Dubai Health Authority in which we trained parents and child care workers in Child Development.
My role with a company called Carfax was as an adviser and consultant. I delivered power point presentations to teachers on a variety of subjects such as Safe Guarding, Inclusion, Classroom Management and Phonics.
I am a great believer that children need to have a firm understanding of what they are learning and do my utmost to establish a very good relationship with a student. My teaching involves a lot of questioning so that I know from my pupils answers whether they have a firm grasp of what is being taught.
I have a thorough knowledge of the Key Stage 1 and 2 curriculum however little knowledge of examination boards.
