Information about Robyn

Hello!
I’m currently a second-year Graduate-Entry Medical student at Cardiff University looking to tutor in GCSE or A-level Biology, A-level Psychology or GCSE Chemistry. I graduated from Cardiff Univeristy with a first-class degree in Biomedical science in July 2022, and was awarded the `Fritz Jakoby Prize` for the most deserving Final Year Project in Anatomy or Histology.

During my undergraduate degree, I was selected as one of the top 15 academic performers in my cohort, allowing me to specialise within the fields of Anatomy, Physiology and Concepts of Disease. However, I also have some background in modules such as ecology and genetics.

Having received 3/4 offers for Graduate Entry Medicine, I am also able to advise on the medicine application and interview process. Additionally, I scored in the top 10% of students sitting the GAMSAT exam in September 2021; consequently, I am able to support students looking to sit this exam and provide some useful study tips for a grueling exam.

I provide my first session free of charge, allowing students a chance to get to know myself and my teaching style.

I am able to tutor online using my iPad for drawing, or in person if based in Cardiff as I have access to a car. My mother is also a science teacher for secondary and sixth-form students. I therefore have a deeper understanding of the curriculum, mark schemes and general study techniques than most student tutors.
I can appreciate how difficult it must be for this cohort of pupils having missed hours of lesson time due to COVID-19. I will be available to run tutoring sessions throughout summer and/or during term time to allow students to catch up to the level they hope to be working at, and hopefully above!

Please feel free to contact me through email or by SMS if you would prefer.
I hope to hear from you soon :)

Availability: Currently I am focusing solely on my dissertation; thus I have a very free schedule, and am available every day of the week and at any time.

Willing to travel: 10 miles

Experience: I am DBS checked and have experience tutoring younger children.
During my time in sixth form, I volunteered twice a week in my school library as a `reading mentor` for younger students, primarily those with dyslexia or other learning difficulties. I therefore have an understanding of how to teach secondary school children, and how to approach and break-down difficult concepts so that they can be understood and remembered.
Alongside this experience, as a GCSE Spanish student I was also involved in my schools `Language leader` programme. This involved visiting both local primary schools, and year 7 and 8 classes and teaching Spanish lessons alone or as part of a small group of students. As a part of these lessons, I was required to source and create effective learning materials and mark work handed in. This skill can be forwarded onto my role as a tutor, as I gained an understanding of what materials students found helpful and how to lay them out in a user-friendly and beneficial fashion.
Finally, at university I have applied to become a STEM ambassador. This is a role involving teaching science to secondary school children and encouraging them to seek higher education in the fields of Science, Technology, English and Maths. This shows my continued interest in both teacher-student interaction and science as a field.
In a more general sense, I achieved highly at both GCSE (6A*s, 3As and 2Bs) and A-level (A*, A*, A, A) and have a genuine interest in the subject, with the desire to continue my education as a graduate. My GCSE and A-level grades have also been recently achieved, therefore my knowledge of the specification and mark schemes are up-to-date and relevant for the current student cohort.
