Information about Sonal
* non-face-to-face arrangements available during lockdown *
I graduated from the University of Exeter with a 2:1 in BA (Hons) English. I am a qualified primary teacher, having studied at the Institute of Education. The bulk of my experience is in KS2, though I do have some experience in KS1, both inside and outside of the whole-class setting.
I work as a Year 5 teacher in a north London independent primary school, where I am also Head of Literacy. The school has a reputation for getting children into top north London grammar and independent secondary schools, sometimes with scholarships. I am responsible for the majority of formal 11+ preparation, with the remainder being done the following year in the first couple of months of Year 6. I teach mental and written Maths, comprehension, creative writing and verbal and non-verbal reasoning to prepare children for their exams.
I am also an experienced 11+ private tutor - please see `My Experience` for further information.
Availability: Depending on the area, I am only available after 6pm on weekdays but am more flexible at weekends.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I have tutored a range of students, the youngest being six and the eldest doing their AS exams. This has included getting children ready for 7+ exams, supporting children with English at KS2, tutoring both English Literature and English Language at GCSE and the former at AS and tutoring GCSE Spanish.
I have mostly worked with children who were due to sit 11+ exams and progressed to interview stages or accepted offers at schools like QE Boys`, Highgate, UCS, Latymer Upper, Haberdashers and City Boys`.
Students of mine who are due to begin secondary schools in 2021 received offers at: Forest, Belmont, Channing, Highgate, South Hampstead High School, UCS, Merchant Taylor`s, Haberdashers Boys` and Haberdashers Girls`. At least one academic scholarship was awarded from every school listed except for UCS. Please see my review from Karen (dated 2020 as that`s when the original feedback was posted and she had to ask Tutor Hunt to amend the comment because she could not leave a second review).

Excellent tutor, highly recommend.
We have been with Sonal for over a year now. All I can say is THANK YOU SONAL!!! We just got our 11+ results, and it’s almost embarrassing to write it down… but here goes… (We have twins.) My daughter got Academic scholarships to all 5 of the schools she applied to (Habs Girls, South Hampstead HIgh, Channing, Forest & Belmont). And my son got Academic scholarships to 4 out of the 5 schools he applied to (Habs Boys, UCS, MTS, Forest & Belmont). The kids were well prepared by their school and had done well on their CATs, so I asked Sonal to not give them any homework. Rather, I just wanted the kids to be able to do exam practice and go over any problems that they needed extra time or explanations on. Sonal helped them with things like working quickly and strategically through exam questions. She was also great with interview preparation and practice. But most importantly, for me and the whole family, she kept all of us calm throughout. She is very thoughtful about the particular needs of each of our two children. She is very patient and allows our children to work through problems in their own way at their own pace. Both of my children are really happy and comfortable with all aspects of her tutoring. Thank you again Sonal!
Sonal is very knowledgeable and has effective teaching methods.
My child enjoys her lesson. She also has really good time management skills and a fast response rate.
