Information about Jane

I am a highly qualified, experienced tutor with a degree in English literature from University of Bristol and 20+ years teaching English and supporting mainstream and dyslexic students right up to postgraduate degree level. I have supported students studying degrees in English, Psychology, Nursing and Healthcare but can help with any humanities or health based subject. I am a Student Finance England approved provider of study support for university students in receipt of the Disabled Student Allowance.

Originally a secondary school and F.E. teacher, I am an experienced examiner for Edexcel (A level English literature and language & literature). I moved into specialist teaching in 2008, whilst continuing my private tutoring of GCSE and A level English. I have supported many students, including postgraduate students in receipt of the Disabled Student Allowance and have helped many students through their final year dissertation. I am a friendly, flexible tutor.

Postgraduate Certificate in Specific Learning Difficulties, University of Southampton

Experience: Whether your child is underachieving at school or college, or you are a university student struggling with your course, specialist 1-1 tutoring can increase confidence and boost grades. With over 20 years teaching English language and literature, I am a highly qualified, experienced specialist tutor who helps students achieve their very best. As well as teaching mainstream English, I have extensive experience of working 1-1 with students with specific learning difficulties – including dyslexia, dyspraxia, AD(H)D, autistic spectrum disorder – and anxiety.

I have a friendly, flexible approach which is tailored to the needs of the individual. I quickly identify any barriers to learning and work with students’ strengths to develop effective strategies and study skills. This will enable them maximise their academic potential and rediscover their love of learning.

I regularly take part in CPD and have attended many training courses on specific learning difficulties, autistic spectrum disorder, mental health difficulties and supporting students in the transition to university. I hold an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) certificate, dated August 2020 and full Professional Indemnity and Public Liability insurance.
