Information about Jamie
It is my belief that a strong science education is hugely important for every single individual in this country. Although the achievement of qualifications is very important it is also important to develop critical thinking skills and an honest understanding of the World around our young people. This type of education is life long and will enable students to succeed in many different fields.
I have studied Computer Science and Biology at two different universities and this along with earlier educational experiences at GCSE and A-level fostered a passion for Science and education in me. During my A-level I studied freshwater crustaceans in Wales after which I went on to study Computer Science and then Biology. I used my background in Computer Science to help with the implementation of technology during my Biology degree which is where my passion for Biology really took root, no pun intended. Since then I have contributed to various citizen science projects and data gathering.
I volunteered at Cheltenham Science Festival which was the beginning of a renewed passion for education, after which I begun work as a lab technician and I had the opportunity to teach classes, give demonstrations and teach sessions on Biomimesis as an engineering practice. This lead to me beginning my PGCE and starting my career as a teacher.
I believe good teachers can have a powerful effect on their students aspirations and their interests within the teachers` subject. As such I always have the highest expectations of my teaching practice and of my students learning. I like to use methods of teaching which are bespoke to the individual needs of the student to allow them to make the best progress for them.
