Information about Andrew
As a fully qualified classroom teacher with fifteen years experience, I understand that all children are different but all can be successful with an approach tailored specifically to them. I use a wide range of strategies appropriate to the individual needs of your child based on my teaching experience in every year group from Year 1 to Year 6 and leadership in core subjects at several schools rated Outstanding by OFSTED. I have been tutoring since September 2018 and now work with students of all ages, mainly in KS1 and KS2 but also KS3, KS4 and in Functional Skills both privately and in local schools.
With significant experience in teaching the full national curriculum to a wide range of year groups I can provide an enhanced learning experience for every child in all aspects of Maths and English and their application in other curriculum subjects by drawing on the very best of modern and traditional teaching methods. I use quality resources to make learning accessible and meaningful, creating and adapting everything I use to ensure the learning is tailored to the learner. Interesting, engaging and constantly adapting to the needs of your child as and when they emerge you wont just see work, youll see real progress.
Alongside tuition in Maths and English I also provide tuition in Science, Computing (including coding in Scratch) and the foundation subjects. Subjects such as History are a rich source of ideas for writing, contexts for reading and for the application of Mathematics as well as being educational in their own right. I can draw on your childs experience of these subjects to further improve their English and Maths skills.
I have significant experience teaching children with a wide range of differing needs, including those with specific educational special needs including autism, downs syndrome, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia and global delay. I also provide stretch and challenge for children working at or above age related academic expectation to ensure they meet their full potential.
Availability: I have limited availability on weekdays and weekends for students both in mainstream education and those who are home educated. Please contact me to find out more.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
Experience: I qualified in 2004 and have worked as a full time primary teacher up to now (July 2018) at schools in Essex (2 years), Hackney (10 years) and Chingford (2 years). During this time I have lead Music, Science and Maths, mentored newly qualified teachers, taught in every year group from 1 to 6 and worked in a specialist intervention role with individuals and small groups.
Since September 2018 tutoring students in KS1 and KS2 has been my main focus, both in school, after school and during the day for home educated children. I also work with students studying for their GCSEs and Functional Skills exams; and I continue to teach in schools on an occasional supply basis.
