I am a freelance tutor and translator based in Wokingham. I am passionate about reading, writing and languages - I have lived in a number of different countries in southern Africa and Europe and I love to share my experience and love of learning with others. During my Masters, which I completed in 2021, I studied Comparative Literature and wrote my dissertation on modern African transgenerational novels by women writers; I have a particular interest in the representation of oral culture and migration in contemporary fiction. I love books and languages and aim to share this enthusiasm with my students!

Experience: I have worked or volunteered in a range of teaching positions throughout my life, including running a reading club for Year 7 students during my A levels, working as a language assistant in a German high school during my year abroad, and volunteering as an interview helper and student ambassador during my degree, which involved interacting with and motivating prospective university applicants. I have experience tutoring both primary and secondary school students, as well as coaching applicants to the University of Oxford and assisting with mock interviews.

When teaching German, I combine a rigorous approach to learning grammar and vocabulary with a broad focus on literature, culture, film and current events. I aim to inspire my students to have a genuine curiosity about German culture and language, alongside building a firm grammatical foundation that will guarantee excellent exam results.

For English language and literature teaching, I apply a practical approach that centres a real enjoyment and appreciation of books and the written word, whilst training in fluent literacy, comprehension and writing skills.

I am passionate about learning and love to share this with my students. I prioritise finding each student`s learning style and interests, and tailor my tutoring to their specific needs and abilities, with the intention that they should be able to achieve excellent results whilst truly enjoying their learning. I believe that every student can find their own voice whether it comes to writing or learning a language, and grow their confidence as they learn. I am a warm, approachable and easy-to-get-on-with person who genuinely enjoys connecting with others and loves to share knowledge with them. Having been homeschooled for part of my childhood and teenage years, I have a first-hand understanding of the challenges and delights of individual learning, and am committed to providing a learning environment that is truly enjoyable for each student. I also whilst also yielding excellent exam results.
